http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/05/second-round_pick_vladimir_duc.html Some good/real news. Glad to see the rest of the line is working with Ducasse and getting him up to speed.
Great to hear. I said that he would be an immediate contributor to our O Line and it's shaping up that way.
Sure sounds like he's going into the competition for LG with an edge according to what Rex was saying, although I don't see anything in that article saying he's working with the 1's full-time. He worked with them all day on Thursday.
There's a Callahan interview on nyjets.com... he says both Ducasse and Slauson are competing and also Turner is still in the mix. I know it may sound weird but I really hope Turner has a shot... he can be the DeVito of our OL. Callahan also said Ducasse has the versatility to be a guard or even a RT... I hope in the long term that's where he'll end up.
We'll see. Callahan's interview on the official site is pretty non-committal about the LG job. I think there's probably a pretty good chance that Ducasse ends up winning the job, but it is by no means a slam dunk.
Even if he doesn't end up starting this year he needs the work with the ones...or more importantly AGAINST the ones. Welcome to the NFL...now go stop Kris Jenkins from killing someone.
It's hard to compare the QB and LG position but if I were to draw a parallel there I would say that Slauson is Clemens (experience) and Ducasse is Sanchez (talent). I think the outcome will be the same.
I'm glad Ducasse is showing what he can do. He played LT in college, so the raw pass protection reports we were hearing are confusing. He knows how to pass block, but he has to adjust to the speed of the NFL. That's something that every rookie has to do. This isn't surprising. He has immense strength and has Callahan working with him. He'll be ready by pre-season to be a starting LG in this league.
So far Rex Ryan has started talent over veterans. That's all I'm saying. Ducasse is by far the more talented player.
Yep. Slauson may be around for one season longer, but that really doesn't mean anything. Once Ducasse is up to speed, and that should take all of TC, he should be fine.
I hope he's around longer than that because we're going to need either a LG or a RT once Woody retires.
I do not see Slauson going anywhere. He offers too much in the way of depthvand versatility. The kid played 3 positions in college while at the same time coached by Callahan. I see him developing as one othose "hold the fort" type players that every team needs.
It seems excellent to bring Vlad up to speed as quickly as possible and also to allow Vlad, Slauson and Hunter to compete for the job. It seems like its all a big positive for the OL and team in general to have a healthy competition.
