http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2461281 Williams agrees to deal to play for CFL's Argonauts ESPN.com news services Ricky Williams has agreed to a one-year contract for $240,000 to play for the CFL's Toronto Argonauts this season, ESPN.com's John Clayton has learned. Williams will not have an option with the team and will be able to return to the Dolphins next season. The Argonauts have called a 4:30 p.m. ET news conference to announce a "major signing." The Miami Herald, citing a source close to the Argos, had earlier reported that the Dolphins would allow Williams to play for Toronto s long as they have it in writing that he will be released at the end of the CFL season. The Argonauts secured Williams' CFL rights when the running back was suspended for a year by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The team's training camp starts Sunday, and the team opens its regular season June 16. The Dolphins had been reluctant to let Williams play in Canada due to the risk of injury, but apparently relented. Williams has three children and a fourth on the way and has reportedly earned $270,000 since December 2003, the Herald reported. He owes the Dolphins $8.6 million for breaching his contract when he retired in 2004. "We want Ricky back on our team," Dolphins coach Nick Saban told the Herald earlier this month. "Ricky doesn't need to go to Canada to prove anything to us." But Saban also said the Dolphins would "give him the opportunity to do it if it's something that he needed to do or really wanted to do." Williams rushed for 743 yards and six touchdowns last season ======================================== Good news. Keep him fresh for 2007.....
Well that will be the one Roughrider game I attend this season, I really want to see him play live, he was one of my favourite players to watch before he retired
I tried to buy a R.W. Argos jersey today, but the crappy CFL dosent allow names/numbers on fan jerseys according to the man at the mall. GAY
I see guys around Saskatchewan with Riders jersey's and names all over the place, maybe they take them to a custom shop after buying the jersey, i do not know for sure though, but it sound slike the guy at the mall maybe just being lazy
Around Kingston, Ontario (where I live) I've never seen jerseys of any type with names / numbers. Hopefully it's just cause Kingston sucks(which it does, alot) and not cause of the CFl
Yeah it is cause Kingston sucks because I see CFL jerseys here with names and numbers on them everywhere.
He'll probably do REALLY well with the shitty players in Canada... that's cool and good for him that he's playing. He SHOULD be in the NFL but apparently, yoga drugs are sOOO horrid. *shakes head*
There's always some ignorant people who've never watched a CFL in their lives to talk down on the CFL, those are the same ignorant people who tought the USA was the only country where they play Basketball until they got their ass handed to them in the Olympics.
I have to agree. From everything I have seen and heard about Ricky he appears to be a quality person with great character. His personality will probably be a much better fit with Canadien fans than here in the US.
Didn't they legalize it there? Or decriminalize it or whatever? I never did understand the difference, all I know is it's still illegal in Jersey, which sucks.
Not going to get into it, but ricky will win the rushing title for that club. Nobody plays in the cfl because they want to.
