Henne vs Sanchez : A brief discussion by Matty I - May 7, 2010 I was going to hold off on this very topic for a few weeks because I think it's a good one and one that will be debated for years. But since ESPN's Tim Graham had to go and make a post for his blog touching on this subject earlier this week, I figured now was the time toss out my two cents on the debate. First of all, let's be honest. This debate will likely rage for years between each team's fans. Both Chad Henne and Mark Sanchez will very likely be the long-term quarterbacks for their respective teams. And five to ten years from now, we'll know the answer to this question. All "homerism" aside, I don't know which player will be better. But I feel compelled to at least defend Henne after reading Graham's logic as to why he has Sanchez ranked higher. Apparently it was Mark's performance in the playoffs with the Jets that resulted in Graham ranking Sanchez ahead of Henne. Going a step further, Graham actually writes: Also solidifying my placement of Henne: While Sanchez got better as games became more meaningful down the stretch, Henne struggled . . . rest of article : > http://www.thephinsider.com/2010/5/7/1461225/henne-vs-sanchez-a-brief-discussion
Sanchez is much better passing on the run than Henne. Also, when comparing touchdowns to attempts - 12 passing for both, Sanchez with 364 attempts, while Henne had 463.
Sanchez did have much better red zone targets than Henne though. Also, if you flip it around and look at INTs... Sanchez threw far more INTs in a far fewer amount of attempts... That's 1 INT every 18 attempts for Sanchez... vs 1 every 33 attempts for Henne. Almost twice as often...
Sanchez will be 23 when the season starts; Henne will be 25. I think both of them have their warts, but we'll know a lot more after this year. -X-
But let's get real, 10 of those INT's came in two games. That screams rookie mistake. You can't look at the INT to attempts ratio with Sanchez this year and try to make an argument out of it because the numbers are going to be very skewed.
Chad Henne couldn't win a big game with a WR core of Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, Randy Moss, and Shannon Sharpe at TE. Not to mention Jim Brown at RB. He sucks. His dumbass will never, ever, win a ring, and I'd be surprised if they ever won a division under his retarded late season decisions. Mark Sanchez would be better if he retired today. Sincerely, This Michigan fan who knows Henne stole 2 National Titles from us fans in his 4 years.
You're going out of your way to find the optimism here. Sanchez and Henne both look to be promising young QBs. Having said that, both of them have a ways to go before you can say that they have "arrived" as NFL QBs. From a physical standpoint I think Sanchez is both more mobile and more accurate. I think Henne has the bigger arm and (from what small sampling we have to go off of) I like his build/durability more. I think both of them will be good QBs in time. And yeah, Sanchez is a rookie and Sanchez was asked to do more than Henne. BUT, Henne is on a team with only a TE as a legitimate pass-catching weapon. Keep in mind that both the Jets and Dolphins are running teams, so it's not like either QB was called upon to lead a passing-oriented offense.
Silly argument this early in both of their careers. Both are young and are prone to making "rookie" mistakes. Give 'em both a few seasons under their belts and renew the discussion.
 You're kidding me, right? Trent "The Stick" Edwards' ship has already sailed. Chan Gailey is not exactly "real coaching". Dick Jauron is more of a real coach than Gailey.
