The way Rex is talking him up, it appears that he could very easily be this years westerman. I doubt he will be anything other than a career special teams guy, but hey he can have a nice long career as a ST demon if he's good at it.
What position can he play in the 3-4? He is too small to play linebacker and to big and slow to play safety.
I didn't realize it was that bad. Hell, I could run a 4.91. The reason I asked was because I saw him listed as a SS in one article, and also saw he played some safety in college. I really know nothing about him other than that.
He's a special teams linebacker. If he's making a lot of calls, then I'm willing to bet he's playing inside linebacker in our defense. For those of you that think he's going to play defensive back...it's not happening. He hasn't played there since high school and he's just not fast enough.
Reamer was signed in college by Shula as a saftey. He blew out a knee and came back slower or never was that fast and converted to LB and has tried to bulk up. As stated, he doesn't pass the numbers tests but carved out a niche at Alabama. I think he came out when we went to nickle and dime coverage. Great kid, hope he becomes an Izzo.
He was an OLB in a 4-3... I guess that makes him an ILB in our 3-4. Good, I'm happy he brings a little competition in a position where we have a need for back-ups. My guess though is if all goes well he'll spend this year on the PS to add a little weight.
Alabama plays a 3-4. Reamer played inside, next to Rolando McClain at Alabama. Saban runs a pretty nasty defensive scheme at Alabama - the Jack position is basically a linebacker that roams and lines up all over the place, so a lot of the time, Reamer played outside backer when the JACK was lined up on the other side.
Maybe the Jets will use him as a pass-rushing specialist on 3rd down. Taylor isn't a long-term option and outside of Pace this isn't really an area of strength for the team. Do you think it suits his skillset?
With a 4.91? Doubtful. As for Taylor, I agree that he's not a long-term solution at OLB. Rex said that he's using him this season to close out games. In other words, he'll probably be used as a nickel rusher. Next year we'll have to draft a premiere pass rusher.
Reamer isn't much of a pass rusher. I think he's a pretty good coverage linebacker. His future in the NFL is on special teams...lucky for him (and us) we need special teams backers. Kevin Basped has the potential to be a pretty good pass rusher in the NFL. He's a player that stood out in the first couple days as well.
