Ryan says Jets have talked to Coles, could fill in for Holmes 5:53 PM, April 30, 2010 ι By BART HUBBUCH We have some tough games until Santonio is back, and I think it would be a good move to get this guy, or another wr. Many of you guys will probably say wtf? F Coles! But honestly with J-Co, and Braylon(for 4 games) who is our 3rd receiver? Brad Smith? David Clowney? Coles would be an instant upgrade over Brad, and David. If somebody can post the list of WR we would be able to sign with all the restrictions, and bs that'd be nice
I asked some people via twitter at espn, and jets beat writers. they think edwards will only get a fine.
Coles would be fine as a slot option. He's really not going to be worth a lot more to the Jets than that unless Cotchery gets hurt. He's still a solid receiver who can get open on the quick slants and outs but he's also a multi-concussed risk to be retired on any given play. He has very quietly climbed the all-time receptions list and now sits 35th all-time. The guys right in front of him? Reggie Wayne by 2 catches and Ochocinco by 10. Coles has always been very under-rated, or alternately those guys have been over-rated. If he had played with Peyton Manning his whole career he'd probably be sitting at 900 catches or therabouts.
I dont believe he is suspended at all this season. Right around the begining of the playoffs the NFL was considering on suspending him for the first few games of this season. After a while they decided not to suspend him.
No, he's talking about Braylon Edwards who still has unspecified disciplinary action maybe in the offing from when he punched the guy outside the nightclub before getting traded to the Jets. My guess is the suspension would have been announced by now if it was going to happen.
Is it really worth signing him just for four games? I'm confident that Brad Smith or, dare I say it, David Clowney can be a #3 for the first month. I love Coles, he's a warrior, but I don't know how he'd feel about being the #4 WR in a run-heavy offense for the majority of the season.
Smith and Clowney aren't 3rd receiver material. One of them can't get open and the other one can't run routes.
I wouldn't mind Coles back on the roster. I always liked him when he was here, but yeah...once game 5 rolls around, he probably wouldn't see much playing time...
Can he help us win in the first four games? Answer is yes, sign him! Oh yeah McKnight is shitting the bed in mini, maybe we'll have to look for a RB too.
I think we absolutely should sign him again, as well as the many compelling reasons on the field (ask yourself honestly: Clowney or Coles?) I've been saying that we need as many players as possible with stupid made up names that don't really exist. His is even better than most because it isn't even pronounced like it's spelled; with a WR corps of Laveranues, Braylon, Jerricho and Santonio we'll have the most ridiculously named offence ever.
Considering all the other weapons on this team who could step up--Keller, LT, McKnight--and hell, we reached the AFCCG with that same Brad Smith as our #3 last year--bringing in someone for three games is as far from a necessity as anything.
