Cotchery is the one the Jets can afford. With all of the key positions coming open - Brick, Mangold, Harris, Revis - the Jets cannot afford two #1 receivers.

Plus, our offense isn't geared to be a vertically focused passing attack like Oakland or Arizona. We only have a spot for one #1 receiver.

i was thinking the same thing, just never really posted it

Cotch is a nice player, one of my favorite Jets...does all the right things on and off the field. But Holmes + Edwards is a SICK WR combo if they can keep their heads on straight. McKnight can play in the slot as can Keller.

If they're both looking for 10+ million per than obviously there's no way we can keep both

Hey look, it's a Rich Cimini article quoting 'veteran players speaking on behalf of anonymity'. Who woulda thunk it? Cimini is such an unimaginative, alarmist douche.

Well said. Any chicken little can see the sky as falling wihtout doing anyresearch. In fact they have to because if you start looking into things you quickly realize how well we are set up for the long term. Yes we may lose a guy or two, but we will also have room to sign most of our guys and yet another draft to find a replacement for those that go in 2011.

Things are looking very good for this year and we have a solid plan for the long term.

    he's too consistent.

You have your playmaker, and your reliable possession guy. If Cotch tears an ACL, he'll be the next to go.

All the talk about guys playing for Rex or a ring is great and all things being even, I'm sure every player wants a ring and many to most would love to play for Rex but this is a business. Players have a limited window for playing income and their first focus is going to be to max that income and rightfully so.

That being said, we're going to be fine. Tanny is proving himself to be one of the best, if not the best, at managing these decisions. He's maximizing our 2010 opportunities while already running 2011 and 2012 numbers. Guy is showing himself to be very impressive.

I'm sure Tanny has it under control. He's never let us down when it comes to the cap. Part of the reasoning for cutting Faneca and trading Leon is looking forward toward next season.

I think that until they show otherwise on the field, they are ALL likely to be signed to long term deals. This is why Faneca and Leon are already gone. Unless Cromartie is terribad he will definitely be resigned.

If there is no cap next year that means there will be no NFL next year either so what does it matter?

If they are still playing football next year then the Jets will have 7 unrestricted FAs and 17 restricted FAs. To think this team won't change considerably is just as crazy as to think they aren't all in for this year alone.

ESPN president to Rich Cimini when recruiting him away from NY Post:

"The best part about writing for ESPN is you no longer have to do any research on anything you are writing about. You can scratch out anything you want and people will buy it. Working for ESPN, you will have much more time to work on your golf swing."

Rich: "Sounds great! Where do I sign? Can I just initial or do I have to write out my full name?"

Personally I would trade Revis to the Colts for Peyton Manning.

This guy has been reading my stuff....

That said.. Take that list and Sign Mangold, Ferguson, Harris and Revis....

I think Cromartie was signed as a ULTRA-TALENTED Hold the fort guy with something to prove.... And that's why I nailed it that the Jets would draft a CB.

They will try to sign one of Braylon and Holmes....

Maybe you lose both WR's and Maybe David Harris...

I don't think thats so huge - Frankly That is the NFL... Then you go out and maybe get a couple more hold the fort guys and you draft, Round and round....

    Major Upheavel????? - Child Please.

One other thought I had was this...

Can the Jets get a few of these deals done now and Frontload the money this year????

Tanny was just on WFAN and I was dying for them to ask that....

Trich is likely gone after this season.

That's about a million off the books-

I can actually see this happening. If Edwards can pull off comparable numbers to Holmes, the CS might decide to keep him because of his size and blocking ability over Holmes' speed.

My latest kick for a goner: Gholston. After the position switch and the restructuring of his contract, I think he'll have to have an amazing four games just to make it out of preseason.
