From Twitter (4:27EST) RichCimini Early word on Adalius Thomas: Yes, Jets do have interest. How much hard to gauge. But Rex has a way of getting his guys.
Mr Bryan Thomas' stock continues to sore with every DB we bring in. Why? If they can't pass on us, they GOTTA try and run on us, and BT is our best run stopper on that side of the field. Plus there ain't NO TEAM that's running up the middle and living to tell about it. With 20% more of the game headed BT's way, he might fianaly get to earn his coin. Teams will be trying to run on 3rd and 18. Jason Taylor may never see the field.
This, I do not think there is any way Thomas gets cut. Judging by body language and the emphaticness of his words I do not think they are cutting him. He is a tough run stopper and I think his skill in that area gets lost on some people who just look for sacks @ OLB.
I love the cactus, I hope we don't lose him. He has done everything this organization has asked of him. If anyone should go.. bye, bye Gholston.
I remember him emphatically stating that Thomas was not going to be cut but I don't remember him saying anything about Thomas being traded. I think that response mostly came about from the speculation fallout after the Taylor signing, with Rex meaning that Thomas is not losing his job to Jason Taylor. Adding Adalius Thomas could change that, though. Or not. Whatever. I agree with his value to the running game. Thomas had a beast of a year against the run last season. If we can get a good rotation going between him and Taylor for passing downs than that side of the field could just be a death trap.
Thomas wasn't just a good run stuffer last year, he was one of the best run stuffer's in the entire NFL last year, amongst 3-4 OLB's. He's not going anywhere.........nor is he losing his playing time on 1st and 2nd downs.
Really good point, although 20% is probably an exaggeration. JT and BT will make for an excellent platoon, even if neither is a complete LB on his own at this point. I can't wait to watch this defense. Adalius, Henderson, and/or Sharper would only add to the ridiculousness.
I think Adalius winds up with the Jets within the next few days. I will have to admit knowing the Phins they will be a strong contender in picking up Adalius. The last time Adalius won a Super Bowl he was playing for the Ravens in 2000 with Rex. He couldnt win a Lombardi Trophy with the Patroits so what makes him think he will win one with Miami. This years off-season has been a Domino effect that started with the Jets trading for Cromartie. One by one most known defensive free-agent showed a high interest in playing for Rex. I am pretty sure Adalius is going to be a Jet.
Rex was a DLine coach in 2000, he wasn't promoted to DC until 2005. Back when Adalius Thomas got himself a ring, it was Marvin Lewis running the scheme and calling the defensive plays. Adalius Thomas is going to receive a lot of offers from a lot of different teams that he'll probably want to listen to, but the Jets will be his best shot at a championship.
Hell prolly come at the same price that jt did ...u can never have too many pass rushers esp since we run a lot of 4and 5 man fronts
Thats right, I totally forgot about Rex being a D-Line coach before he took over as DC. Well Rex still can reel in Adalius easily, it comes down to the money.
Due in large part to the presence of Parcells, Miami, not unlike BB's Pats, have a team culture that can be fairly described as ultra-strict, hard-ass and inflexible. Unless Thomas is either a dope or a masochist, I'd be pretty surprised if he decided to go to a team with a culture so similar to the one he just left and hated so much.
