That the draft day is not make or break for the Jets. When was the last time you were not worried who the Jets draft? Never for me. It seems like this year the draft is just icing. Yes, the pick is important, but really the buzz is not there.
Yeah, good point, no clue who we take unless somebody obvious like Odrick falls. But it's nice to be able to focus on depth and take BPA, rather than having to pray some guy falls to our pick.
yeah we were a whole 9-7 last year... no need for a productive draft.... after all we should be able to easily sign all of our free agents at the end of next year. granted 1 pick is not going to make or break but are we really that talented?
Depends, if you are talking about "we" as the forum, not really. If you are talking about "we" the Jets, yes. You may be confusing talent with depth. The Jets have assloads of talent, depth not so much.
I think the premise was that this team is pretty damn good going forward and we still haven't even had the draft yet. We can compete for the AFC title (even with "sancheese" as QB) even if we had 0 picks in this draft
Thank you. The point was the Jets 1st round pick will not be expected to "turn the franchise around" Throwing out the Gholston pick, it all started with Mangold and Brick.
If in 4 years out of the 8 1st and 2nd round picks your GM only makes 1 true mistake your franchise should be in great shape. Edit: That is without even considering the GM has picked 2 potential all time greats @ their positions and with 2-3 other potential stars in the mix. Every Gm no matter how good is going to get a pick wrong.
I can think of a couple. The year we drafted Ken O'Brien over Marino was similar to now. Just off the AFC championship game, QB wasn't a need, nobody was thinking about Dan Marino. In hindsight it's made up as this colossal blunder but at the time the Jets were pretty set, all they really needed to do was not fire Walt Michaels. Marino turned out to be great but who knows if he came here with Joe Walton what would have happened?
Well a few differences between this years jets and last years 9-7 Jets. Sanchez is no longer an inexperienced Rookie. Chris Jenkins is healthy again. We're only starting the season with 1, not two players suspended. Last season our wide receiver corps was Cotch, Stucky, Clowney, Brad Smith and Wallace Wright on opening day. (Edwards wasn't added till October 8th and didn't play till game 5 of the season (ironically same time that Holmes will be eligable to play this year). Not to mention that Keller emergered as a reciever late in the year. Secondary has been improved with the addition of A.C. Even if you dont' thing that AC will return to his form of a couple years ago a 25 year old AC is still better than a 30 year old Sheppard. Lastly the pass rush should be better this season with the addition of Taylor and a healthier Jenkins.
I really like it because this is the first year in a long time that we can just focus on taking BPA. I think the only excuse that Tannenbaum has for not taking the BPA is if its a qb and theres almost no way Clausen or Bradford falls that far. I'm really hoping we can grab a monster safety or a badass pass rusher. If we did take a safety that doesnt tackle like a women its already an upgrade over Carrie Rhodes and if we can get that 3rd down pass rusher we already have someone he can learn from. Either way this team can only get stronger through the draft this year.
Yup, the lines. Thats why I want Iupati even if we have to trade up lets say 5 spots, not more than that. I would like us to select TWO DE by Saturday IF possible. Lines are very very important in the NFL. U can have Manning back there but if he doesn't have time, he will throw errant passes. Getting Iupati will help a great deal since we would then have Mangold, Brick and Iupati for years to come. That left side will become rock solid. Next year, we can draft an RT and/or RG early on and our OL will be good enough for even Woodhead to run for a 1000 yards (one can atleast hope:wink: ).
U missed Leon, whom we didn't seem to miss last year anyways. Oh, and we'll have those first and second round rookies as well.
O'Brien was a great QB. It was our offensive line that sucked ass. Same thing would have happened to Marino if he went to the Jets.
Im with you, I don't think it will break us this year so could we possibly see a Trade up ? Maybe for Earl Thomas or Brandon Graham ?
