This kid is definitely a big time talent, but man does he sound like an idiot every time he opens his mouth. These segments are the best thing that ESPN's done in a long time. Gotta love Jon Gruden's quote about Ray Lewis: "...he can't wait to blitz your ass."
1. Agreed, he looks like a beast. 2. College is not for everyone, and black southern twang is a weird thing./racism
Black southern twang has nothing to do with it. He just sounds a little slow...not just in this video, but all the time. A lot of Carolina fans called him Bubba (Forrest Gump).
My favorite part of his series of segments so far was when he was making fun of McCoy's accent. The 'raid/cockroaches' bit was funny too. I did think it was quite ironic that they had him doing segments where he deciphered the skills and talents of these young QB prospects. He was obviously very knowledgeable about where they were developmentally and what they had to do to improve. Found this funny because back when he was a coach I'd read/heard he'd picked up a bit of a reputation as a guy who just wasn't into dealing with/developing young QBs on his team..even though it seems that as a coach he definitely possessed the ability to get the most out of a young QB had he drafted one to start for him.
He never knew how to scale back his offenses for younger QBs. NFLN had a small segment about it where they showed two similar plays, one from Gruden's offense and one from the Packers. Gurden's play was insanely long while the Packers' play was two or three words. His offenses are extremely complicated. Every WR gets at least 3-4 option/choice routes which the QB has to call in the huddle depending on what the defense has been showing him and then has to make the adjustment at the line as well. It's a lot for rookies to deal with, that's why his best performer was Brad Johnson.
does anyone know if this is going to be on TV? Or was and they are re-running it? The QB hr special was great. Gruden is awesome.
Thank god he can make about 7 cuts and be in the end zone in the time it takes him to work out a sentence. He's got a loooot of Chris Johnson in him. And I actually heard him on ESPN radio last night talking to the Jets beat guy, and I picked up the same thing. What's funny was that when he got to talking about Subway (the reason he was wherever he was) he got a lot more articulate. It was weird.
Bottom line Spiller can play, it did worry me a little that he was talking like that and didnt atleast switch it up since he was going to be on tv but im not too worry. Emmitt Smith wasnt the brightest guy and he still had great sucess
The thing that sets the two apart is power. Chris Johnson is an angry runner, while Spiller plays incredibly soft. He's got amazing speed and agility, but he can't run between the tackles.
Spiller is such a fucking beast its unbelievable, I go to FSU so I see alot of ACC games and the kid was just flat out dominant and made defenders look really stupid most of the time.
