I don't know about a lot of fight, especially for Tebow. All it takes is for one tiny rumor to get out that Minnesota is looking at McCoy as its QB of the future (which it could easily do in an uncapped year, regarding QB money on the books) and Cleveland could look to move up. I was talking to MB about Tebow. He thought someone might try to move up for him to our spot, but I just don't see that happening. The only serious 2nd round competition for him would come from Jacksonville, and their 2nd rounder belongs to the Patriots. My guess is if he goes anywhere early in the 2nd round, it's to the Pats.
As I posted in a separate thread, draft aficinado Russ Lande says the Chargers are showing serious interest in Linval Jospeh as well, maybe with their first round pick. Unfortunately they pick one spot ahead of the Jets.
I don't see that happening. They have pressing needs at several positions and can address some with a Day 1 starter. While they certainly need a NT, I don't know that Joseph is ready to start at NT right away. He can, however, rotate in all along the line. Much better fit for us than the Chargers for the first round pick.
I know we live in a what have you done for me lately world but to say Delhomme not a viable stop gap takes it to a new level. Regardless of his short cummings he is long-time NFL starter, with a winning record, gone to the Pro-Bowl taken his teams to championship game and the Super Bowl. If he is not a viable stop gap, then who is? Are stop gaps suppose to be Peyton Manning?
Good chance it's McCourty. Makes sense with all the needs we've filled in free agency and Rex's infatuation with corners.
Joseph does certainly could go there, but as you said the chargers have a lot of needs, and Joseph isnt ready to be a NT just yet. Too be honest, I think SD is the one spot Mt. Cody could possibly go in the first for that reason. They need a big fat guy in the middle, and that guy certainly is cody, plus Williams will be back so he can teach the guy how to be a pro.
No doubt he's on the decline. But to say he's not even good enough to be a stop gap for a year or too, I think is a bit of an exaggeration.
Yep. I think SD would prefer to go with Cody or Thomas just because of the pressing need at the NT position.
What does Delhomme's premature ejaculation problem have to do with it? Seriously, though, are you suggesting the step from Jake Delhomme to Peyton Manning is a small one? Delhomme is absolutely shot as a QB. Talk to any Panther fan out there. A friend of mine is a huge Panther fan, and at the end of last season, he said not only did he prefer Matt Moore, not only did he prefer Josh McCown, he'd rather have Hunter freaking Cantwell out there than Delhomme. Exaggeration aside, the only way I would want Delhomme as my QB is if I knew I had someone ready to come in midseason to take over. So, I should have said "Delhomme is not a viable stopgap while they avoid drafting a QB for a year and then have to develop whoever they're in position to take in 2011. I thought we were all aware of the conditions inherent to Cleveland's position.
