they talk of the release of veterans after June 1st. Later in the article, they talk about Seth Payne, and he is pictured on the Jets front page. I went to school with Seth. We graduated from Victor in '93. He's a real cool guy, and smart to boot. I'm not sure if you guys remember, but he came to meet the Jets last year(or the year before?), but when he got off the plane back home in Houston, they made him a nice offer he couldn't refuse. he told me "NOW I know I won't have to work again." Bastard, you are stinking rich! Now, I may like Seth and think he is great, but he has had some injuries over the years. One was a rotator cuff or broken collar bone(i think he suffered at a Bills game), and the others I think have been his knees. As smart as he is, i don't think he can play full speed anymore. I would love to own a Jets jersey with Payne written on it, but I don't see it happening. As of right now, I have emailed him asking him to sign up here and give some professional insight, but I haven't gotten any responses (training?). For those in the Rochester area, I can post when he will be down at McGhans (an Irish bar in Victor), if he is a Jet at that time.
Thats so awesome that you went to school with him. the only person famous that went to my school was Eddie Money and i went to school with his Nephew. I like Seth alot as a player. He may be on the downside of his career with his injuries and age but i think he could be a nice addition to this rebuilding jets franchise. Hopefully the FO will make a push for him come june.
Did we sign the guy? I went to the site but couldn't find anything on him, I'll be honest, I didn't look too hard. Cool if you knew the guy for Jerzey sake. I played against and then went to school with Emmitt Smith. HS. Sat next to him in one class. He even wanted to trade his State Champion Ring for some piece of crap nugget ring my girlfriend gave me and I said 'no'. Stupid.
personally i like the mentioning of Jason Babin in that same article more then Payne. Babin would be perfect for our team, hes a young athletic guy who plays his best at OLB in a 3-4, which happens to be a big need for us.
No we didn't sign him, the article is implying that he may be a June 1st casualty. I remember that Jacksonville drafted him in the fourth round-after drafting Renaldo Wynn in the first. In Seths first game, the second run from scrimmage he stopped them for a loss...later that game, he got his first sack on Boomer Esiason...he said he got like $20,000 for that sack. (It was a Bengals game)
My wife is very good friends with his wife, Brandi. They were college roommates at SUNY Brockport. I hope he comes to NY!!! We were invited to the wedding, but could not attend because my wife was very pregnant and the wedding was in western NY.
