I really don't think that's the case. I think the Jets would move Leon if they could get a 2nd or a 3rd, but I don't think they'd get that, and for less, I think Tannenbaum would rather have Leon than a rookie. No team can put that much faith in Washington this season after his broken leg. As a third runningback and kick returner, he'll have more time to completely heal up. His camp says he'll be good for training camp. We'll see, it's possible, if a little unlikely.
So what you are saying is that he is basically useless? I think I'll die laughing if that turns out to be true.
The dude is still a playmaker until proven otherwise, the ball is in Tanny's court IMO. This isn't like the Sherry situation at all. We gave him up for less compensation then we should've, but it was the right thing to do with him. I just don't feel that way with, Leon. He can still be a very valuable asset to a team, as it stands now, until proven otherwise. So it would just be silly to take anything less then a 3rd rounder for the guy, knowing what he can provide to this team. The only way I see us taking less then a 3rd rounder for the guy is if this injury is far more severe then anyone is letting on to. I don't think it is that crucial at this point though, I just don't.
More of a hope than anything else. I can't see a reason why the jets would release/trade a player that has been nothing but a play maker for this team. It's only a 1 year contract anyway, why not let him play it out and earn his extension? If it turns out Leon is not what he once was due to the injury, then there is no loss. We can simply let him play out his contract next season and part ways if that is the case. If Leon is traded this season, I for one will be pissed.
That's really the only way I see something happening. Someone falls to round 4 that the Jets love, and the Jets try to move up early in round 4 to get him, using Leon as bait.
I think it'll be on Friday. With the night off, we could see the Jets use Washington as ammo to move up in the second round. At this point, I don't think anyone wants to trade for him. There's really no point in having him do anything but return kicks and get about five touches a game. He's a backup third down back.
Leon will not be traded for later round picks. The only way I believe we move him is in a deal involving more of our own later round picks to move up to get a player we want. Quality over Quantity!!
I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by the comment about his health. No one expected him to be healthy at this point of the offseason, if it was July when this comment was made I would be worried. Leon is not going anywhere this offseason and that is a good thing. It is quite clear that no team is going to give up a 3rd round pick or better for him. Anything less and he holds more value to the team than a late round pick. How quickly Jets fans forget what a playmaker he was before his injury. Now he gets the year to prove he can fully recover from his injury. I'm surprised we haven't seen a million threads requesting the Jets to trade Jenkins for a bag of potato chips.
I mean, to be fair, there's not much else he can say, whether he plans to trade Leon or not. If they are looking to trade him, he isn't going to come out and say that to the media.
I think you are overrating the severity of his injury. I never thought he would be healthy enough to trade this early, but his injury was hardly career threatening.
The injury could affect his abilities. I'm almost certain that Washington will lose a little bit of his burst and quickness.
