http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/12570/do-or-die-for-new-york-jets-in-2010 Honestly, what's with the dramatics? People have been picking the Cowboys (who have added players like Adam "Pac Man" Jones, Tank Johnson, TO, etc.) to win the Super Bowl for the past decade plus. The Jets are by no means a team of convicts. As for our long-term success? If Mike Tannenbaum can pull off getting Super Bowl MVP/26 year-old/1st round pick Santonio Holmes for a 5th rounder, I can't wait to see what Tanny does to lock these guys up.
This what people don't get. Edwards is at the end of his deal Holmes is at the end of his deal Cromartie is at the end of his deal Not all of them will be back, this is a one year trial for two of them. The Jets have not hamstrung themselves financially or draft wise with these players. If anyone of them bombs out, they won't be back.
but that can go a few ways... one of them could suck so we don't bring that one back... the could all suck then we either release all of them of keep 2 and hope they get better... or they all could be great in which case tanny should try to keep all three but with the new cba that probably wouldnt happen... the last of those scenarios would suck even more if we didnt win it all this year because then it would hurt us letting someone who produced well for us go... but were obviously winning this year so that shouldnt be an issue. :jets:
If both Holmes and Edwards excel this season, only one of them is going to be resigned. The other is either going to walk or get tagged and traded. There is no reason to pay both of them.
I think Edwards issues are way overblown. He may be cocky, and a talker, but he's a fucking WR dude this is their standard personality. Just like you have to have a certain cockiness to play QB in the NFL, so do WR. He punched one guy in the face, and since it was the King of Cleveland's friend the whole story was larger than it should have been. One rich dusche bag punched another rich duche bag, lets move on. Unless I am forgetting about something else he did, but I am pretty sure I haven't heard anything else.
First Sanchez was caught smoking a cigarette. Now that Holmes is there, he's going to turn into a meth addict, contract rabies, bite Greene and Mangold and turn them into zombies!!1!!11!11!1!!!1
Yes, and that can be a problem. Even if they want them back they may not get any of them back. They really need to go into this draft assuming that none of them will be back. This so looks like a one and done strategy with the way they are letting it play out.
The only way they don't come back is if they all blow it, which is highly unlikely. Cromartie might want to bail if he thinks he can be a #1 CB and doesn't like playing in Revis' shadow but so far it seems like he loves the idea of playing for Rex and playing with Revis. Unless he gets a much better offer from another team, I doubt he goes anywhere. Holmes and Edwards are both battling for next year's number one spot. Why would they both walk when they know that if one goes, the other is guaranteed to be a starter for the Jets for probably the next 4 years?
Unless the following season is also uncapped. Then there is no reason not to pay both of them. Also IF the cap returns, BUT we win the superbowl due to our passing attack, you dont think they find a way to bring em both back ?
They're both going to want a starting spot in 2011. Holmes will take a demotion because he got shipped out but don't think for a second that he will stay there. As for Cotchery, just because he is a team player does not mean it is a good idea to drop him into the #3 role. Holmes and Edwards are both deep threat WRs. Unless we turn into Arizona, having both of them as starters doesn't really work for our offense. Cotchery is the perfect compliment to either one of those as a #2 in Schottenheimer's offense. No, because it would be cheaper to just draft a replacement for whoever leaves.
I could see none of them coming back. Its gonna take a lot of money to sign Mangold, Revis, Brick, and Harris. I consider those maybe besides Harris much bigger priorities.
