For people getting Bush jerseys, it looks like it will be #25 on the back of it. I didn't really expect the NFL to grant him permission to wear #5.

Good. It's stupid if he wears #5.

The LEague shouldn't change the rules for a kid who never played a down in the NFL.

That is the only way the rule can ever change, aka Meshawn

I'm not sure, but I don't think Keyshawn requested that. I saw ESPN recently report that it happened that way on SportCenter, but I don't think it's the case.

If I remember correctly, Keyshawn held out as a rookie and by the time he came to camp the only number available was #19. He was #3 at USC. When the season started, I believe he was allowed by rule to keep the number issued to him in camp. That might have had to do with marketing, might not have, that I don't remember.

Well the reason for Keyshawn was because we ran out of numbers in the 80s, but they didn't have to abolish the rule but they did anyway, and the only way this silly rule would change is if a bunch of rookies request for it

Guys request those #s every year and they don't change. Edge has requested it numerous times and has always been denied so why should they approve Bush especially when someone already has #5 on the Saints?

I have no idea, but why do they even have that restriction in the first place, and as for the number already being chosen the organization would ask the person to change as a Bush jersey with the #5 or 25 would rake in a lot of money

I don't think it's going to effect jersey sales much, but I'm sure people would like to see him #5.

I'll still get a Reggie jersey.

If his # is 101 he's going to sell a billion jerseys.

And that wouldn't be allowed either

And this is like if you trade for a player and he had his number, if some scrub has his number in the current team, whether the scrub sells him his number or if the organization tells him to give it, the new player will get his number

The rules should not change for one player.

He will sell just as much as jerseys if he wears 22, 23, 24, 25, etc. or 5. There are thousands of pre-paid orders waiting and all the Saints fans will have a Reggie Bush jersey as well as tons of USC fans and the people who just buy everyones jerseys.

People claim it will be weird to see Reggie without #5.

Honestly, I think Leinart with #7 will be odd.

I read somewhere that with teams carrying more WRs and TEs in recent years, the league changed the rule to accomodate all teams because they were all running out of 80s numbers. After Keyshawn it became more of an issue and more teams started doing it.

I agree. I'm real tired of sports marketing individuals as it is, the NBA has destroyed itself this way. In the search for the "Next Jordan", every series is Shaq vs Duncan, etc. ESPN spends half of SportsCenter on Lebron James and Barry Bonds, you rarely see anyone focus on the teams anymore.

I think the NFL is right, nobody is bigger than the game. Play a game first, then worry about changing the rules.
