Thirty years ago : Johnny 'Lam' Jones April 08, 2010 - by Mike Beacom > http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/04/08/thirty-years-ago-johnny-lam-jones
He may have sucked on the field, but he's no Vernon Gholston when it comes to all-time Jet busts. At least Lam Jones did show up and contribute. May your final days be peaceful ones Mr. Jones..
Compared to Mike Haight and Ghost he is a HOF On my first visit to Meadowlands watching him try to catch a ball and getting flattened by the CB as he was about 6ft in air and weightless as he was up there that long.
I can't believe he's still alive. Wear that Olympic Gold Medal proud. It was a Jets experiment that didn't work out, but everyone was thin as a reed back then. Yesterday's LBs are today's WRs. Even look at Randall Cunningham. He would get killed today.
What I remember about him was that he seemed to always want to leave his feet to catch the ball - cradling it between his waist and shoulders. Whatever speed advantage he had was lost in the time it took for his feet to come back to the ground. It also gave the defenders time to close in and level him. I don't know how he could be labeled a bust like Leafe and those other guys mentioned since Lam Jones at least scored some TD's and had a big game or two. Not fair that the Jets made the mistake of picking him that high.
Guys who get injured shouldn't be put in the same category for the bust label as people who never get it done at all. Jones was somewhere in the middle, since his drops were a problem from day one, but imo he still would have had a pretty decent career were it not for the injuries.
Kelly! I have missed you so~~~ Come back to us, you fifty year old man, poorly disguised as a young, attractive blonde European woman interested in American football. How did 'she' get 50 posts to start threads when all 'she' did was start threads? Mind boggling.
I was there......we should have taken Anthony Munoz, but the f****** Jets medical staff said no. BTW, Munoz was #2 on the Jets board that year.
