OK, Mark, after you say "hike", sprint backwards and don't look where you throw it. Fuck that Mountainqueer mother fucker.
In all fairness, neither has Bulger in that time span. If that is the case then we can just keep Clemens. He's a bright guy and would probably be a good coach. Having crappy pocket presence cannot hurt us from the sidelines.
I'd be down with Bulger as a backup. We need someone better than Clemens that's for sure. I thought Bulger retired though, guess not.
Cimini: No Interest In Bulger Some Jets leftovers » By Rich Cimini Random thoughts and observations: 1. Following up on the previous post, regarding the Jets' possible interest in former Rams QB Marc Bulger, I did some snooping and determined there's no interest. That bodes well for Kellen Clemens -- for now. What about Jason Campbell, now expendable in Washington? It's hard to imagine the Jets outbidding other teams that would want him as their starter. 2. Spoke to an NFL scout today who believes Clemson DE/OLB Ricky Sapp (6-4, 252) would be an ideal fit in Rex Ryan's 34 defense. Said the scout: "He's a pass-rushing son of a gun." The Jets are picking 29th, and that might be a little high for Sapp, but he has the ability to drop and cover. That has to be appealing to the Jets. By the way, Sapp is scheduled to visit the Jets tomorrow. This is what he wrote in his pre-draft diary for Times and Democrat in Orangeburg, S.C.: "On Tuesday morning, I am flying out to go visit the New York Jets. I am very excited because I have never been to New York and I am ready to see what all the talk is about. I leave from the Jets and fly straight to Arizona to visit the Cardinals. I’m extremely excited, but as quietly as it’s kept ... I HATE flying. I HATE airports, but it’s something I’m going to have to get over real soon." Memo to Ricky: The closest you'll get to New York is seeing the skyline out of your plane window. You're headed to Florham Park, kid. 3. Speaking of outside linebackers ... remember when everybody was speculating on Adalius Thomas to the Jets? Well, last time I checked, he's still a member of the Patriots. Even if he intends to cut Thomas, Bill Belichick isn't going to make it easy for him to run into the waiting arms of his old coach from Baltimore, Rex Ryan. 4. Check out Damien Woody's radio show tomorrow night on Sirius, from 8 p.m. to 11. It should be a good listen. Woody is one of the smart guys in football and, as Jets fans know, he has the gift of gab. He has a future in this business -- radio/TV, I meant, not blogging. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/#ixzz0kH8OYHjw
rex made it known his mentor would be QB coach Matt Cavanugh. But I agree that a veteran for "council" and not "mentoring" would be the better way to phrase it. Sanchez does need a veteran around him. Knowledge is beyond valuable, and this kid doesn't know shit yet, even with the massive potential and promise we saw last year. He has so much to learn.
I feel Bulger has fallen into the abyss Ken O'Brien fell into. When you get hit that many times, you become shellshocked and are never able to step into your throws anymore without that fear of taking a beating. A backup on this team wouldn't be more than a caddie for the running backs similar to Clemens in his relief duty this past season. No thanks to Bulger.
You need the right kind of mentor for Sanchez. You can't just bring in any old veteran QB and think he'll be someone for Sanchez to look up to. Garcia would be a better fit for this.
2 Pro Bowls and 20,000+ passing yards isn't an accomplishment? I mean, the guy's certainly not a future Hall of Famer, but he was a successful QB before his line completely fell apart.
Please do the right thing and sign him Jets. Reduce Clemens tender to like a 5th a get anything for him. We need a Vet.
This mentoring stuff is a bunch of BS. Bulger doesn't want to mentor Sanchez. He wants to play. And what makes Bulger a mentor? Sanchez has a mentor. He is the QB coach and his name is Matt Cavanaugh and he also played QB in the NFL for a number of years. That is all a young QB needs. How did Favre work out as a mentor for Clemens or Rodgers??? No vet wants to mentor anybody until he is almost 40 years old and is the 3rd string QB.
1. Mentor? How did Pennington turn out for Clemens? Yep. He didn't do jack shit. 2. Bulger? He won't do jack shit for Sanchez, by the same token. 3. Why sign Bulger, when you have other capable bodies on the roster (Ainge seems like a better option should Sanchez go down)?
Bulger has been playing piss-scared for the past 3 years. He has had all of the pocket presence of Kellen Clemens in that time. We might as well just go with the cheaper option.
This makes no sense. Favre wasnt brought in to be a mentor to young qb's. He was brought in here to try and win for 1 year. The examples you should look to instead are Kurt Warner for Eli as a rookie, McNabb for Kolb for a few years, Aaron Rodgers learning under Favre for a couple of years, Brady under Bledsoe, Rivers under Brees, Palmer under Kitna, Pennington under Vinny, and even Henne under Pennington..the list goes on and on. Sanchez had no veteran to lean on and learn how to handle his business and some tricks of the trade from. Those things help. Just because he was a starter from day 1 and never had that veteran to lean on last year doesn't mean getting one for year 2 wouldn't be beneficial.
at being able to throw the ball to his receivers...without the ball bouncing twice before it reaches them.
We need a guy that can run the offense in the unfortunate event that Sancho can't go for a play, a few plays, or even a playoff run. I was screaming Garcia a few years ago when we brought in the over-hyped man-child. Sadly, I don't think he has anything left at this advanced age, no matter what his fine ass wife says. Bulger has proven to be a competent veteran QB. His TD:Int. ratio went down every year he had in the league with a decent team behind him. It is very possible that he has the Carrpies at this point, but it is just as likely that he could perform if called upon behind our stellar O-line. Regardless of either possibility, he is the best available QB in the league right now, and any GM worth his salt would be remiss to ignore him.
