Interesting. The Raiders made some nice strides when they replaced that clown JR with a journeyman. With a real QB who knows? The eagles would have a lethal CB trio with Asomugha, Samuel and Brown.
How the hell are the Eagles reluctant? Top 5 CB for a over the hill QB? Especially with Kolb just sitting there waiting?
If it were any other team, I'd say they were trying to protect themselves from dumping the long time face of their franchise. The Eagles, though? They turn on EVERYBODY, and have given McNabb a ton of shit during his time there. It has to be that starting CB isn't an area of drastic need and Asomugha could easily turn into a one year deal only. He'll be a pain to re-sign. Either way, it seems like a no-brainer to me. They're certainly not going to get better value than that.
Flip him for a pick or something in that case. Nnamdi gets you a 2nd or 1st, easy. Donovan, MAYBE a late 2/3. I don't know, I just dont understand how you waver on that deal, regardless of needs.
aso if traded gets QB francise money if im correct. thats $16 million this year and he cant be franchised next year. crazy deal he got from the raiders
Schefter reporting Oakland are the big frontrunners for McNabb. No mention of Nnamdi, just the #39 pick. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5038866
Going to Minnesota may be Donovan McNabb's second choice for next season (with his first, obviously, being to stay in Philadelphia), but he could very well be on his way to Oakland instead. On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed last Friday's report from Yahoo's Charles Robinson that the Raiders are the front-runner to land the franchise quarterback. After first setting the price on McNabb at two first-round picks and a third-round pick, the Eagles have now said that it would take a pick in the top 42 selections of this year's draft. Conveniently, the Raiders hold the 39th selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Eagles have appeared increasingly ready to move on from the McNabb Era this offseason, entertaining offers for the former No. 2 overall pick from Syracuse. Philadelphia is in a position of strength, with backup Kevin Kolb apparently ready to take the reins of Andy Reid's offense. Kolb was selected with the 36th overall pick three years ago in the 2007 draft. The Raiders have been looking for a franchise quarterback ever since the Super Bowl run put together by Rich Gannon nine years ago. The team spent the first overall pick in that same 2007 draft on JaMarcus Russell, but constant struggles with his conditioning coupled with his failures on the field make him one of the biggest draft busts in recent history. Russell was outplayed by Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye in 2009, when the former top pick completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw 11 interceptions against just three touchdowns. There's no McNabb-to-Oakland deal in place yet, but the gears are turning, and it may be just a matter of time until the Raiders solve their QB woes. http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/03/29/...010/03/29/reports-raiders-angling-for-mcnabb/
Actually with a half decent Qb , the raiders would not be a bad team on paper....unfortunately they play of field turf so will likely still stink the place out!!
I actually like McNabb. If he goes to Oakland, I'll be a sad panda. Some of the things to consider is if McNabb goes to Oakland, he'll have to get a contract extension. Considering that there will be some QB this off-season who'll get extensions--Manning, Brady, and Brees--McNabb could be looking to make some serious bank. Add the fact that Asomugha is going to make QB-money, Seymour is franchised and they have another top 10 pick coming up in the Draft, and that's gonna be some serious money tied up on a handful of players. I'm most certain if the Raiders get McNabb, Russell is gone. Mostly because he sucks, but mainly because they just couldn't afford to keep him after this un-capped year.
Not necessarily, because he is old and they're probably not a Super Bowl team. You might as well get something for him. It's what they're considering trading him for that's the problem. A 29 year old corner for the most important player on the team and a second round pick seems totally absurd. Without McNabb, the Eagles are a rebuilding team that probably has little use for Ashomugha. -X-
I don't see what the big interest is for an older QB like Donovan McNabb on a team like the Rams, who are in great position to take a franchise QB and begin moving in the right direction. This would be fine if McNabb was in his 20's, but he'll be entering his 12th season. And they'd be giving up one of their best young defensive players and a their a pick at the top of the 2nd round where great talent will be available. This would be a big mistake for the Rams. Oh and giving up a dominant shut-down CB for McNabb is also a questionable move.
