I've been reading some of the posts regarding potential trades and it seems to me that the vast majority (or at least the vocal minority) of posters are completely delusional. People seem to think everything the Jets have is pure gold and everything everyone else has is crap. Here is a fairly realistic view of some of the names that have been thrown around: John Abraham is worth: - 2nd round pick, or - a decent player + 3rd round pick (or more likely lower) Kevin Mawae is worth: - second day pick The number one pick in the draft (Texans' pick) is worth: - 4th pick + 2nd or 3rd round pick + next year's #1 The 4th pick is worth: - 2 low first round picks, or - mid-first round pick + 2nd or 3rd round pick I'm open to other suggestions, but I'm getting tired of reading that Mawae will yield a #2 or Abraham plus our number 1 will get us Houston's 1st and 3rd. Here, read this. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=791 That ought'a keep you busy for a while.
The talk is wrong. I will be amazed if we get a anything in the first for Abraham. We are not dealing from a position of power.
lol he had 10 sacks last year and is a elite pass rusher. RE is one the most highly Touted positions in the nfl next to QB,LT and CB
Thing is, everyone knows that he wants to force his way out, so the Jets don't have much leverage in this. They'll probably be shorted for Abe's value if he's dealt.
Yes, but he has publicly stated that he wants out. Teams know that we almost have to deal him. He also will want a big-time contract. These combined with some other concerns will keep his trade value down.
OK....so when you go to buy a car, do you pay the sticker price or the lowest price you can get it for? He is a very good pass rusher, but is one dimensional and has a history of injuries. If he were that great, the Jets would be doing everything in their power to keep him. Believe me, I would love a first rounder, but I'd bet a buck that it will be a 2nd.
Abe is worth a mid to late 1st round pick...the guy is a proven pass rusher and 3 time pro-bowler who is still in his prime. Ask Bill Belichick who he fears on the Jets D...it's not Vilma, Ellis, or D-Rob...he always says it?s Abe. Considering he is the best coach in football I would say his opinion is pretty solid. A mid fist round pick is not out of the question. Of course the Jets will fumble and give him away for a 3rd rounder. I couldn't agree with you more about Mawae...if we get a 5th rounder for him I would be ecstatic. As for what the picks are worth?. http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm
Okay, here's a half-assed analogy for you: Say you have a ten-million dollar carton of milk, but you're lactose intolerant and the milk spoils in a week. Someone comes along and realizes what a valuable item you have, however they also realize it's absolutely useless to you. Now, if he were a fair man, he'd offer you the ten-million dollars that it's actually worth, but seeing how you have no use for it and are desperate to get rid of it before it spoils, do you think he'd actually offer you what it's really worth? Abe may be top-tier talent, but that doesn't necessarily mean we'll get something of equal value in return. The league knows we can't afford him, and that he wants out, so do you think they'll still offer us a first round pick? If LaDainian Tomlinson was angry about his situation in San Diego, and if the Chargers didn't have money to sign him, would you offer the motherload for him, or try to low-ball them first?
I agee with DBJ that a lot of people here do tend to overvalue a lot of our players. Then, when we do end up making what is probably a fair trade, they're all going to complain about how stupid our front office is.
I think I'll just have bake sale in my driveway. I think John Abraham is worth about 6 cupcakes with a smiley faces made out of M & M's right about now.
The problem is, it was posted in the correct forum. Had it been posted here for everyone to see, it would have had it's rightful place of honor.
