A new thread so everyone gets the info correct. http://www.profootballtalk.com/ COMBINE OFFICIAL SCREWED UP VINCE'S WONDERLIC A league source tells us that Texas quarterback Vince Young indeed scored a six on the Wonderlic test on Saturday -- but that the guy who graded the test screwed the thing up when totaling the number of right answers. Combine officials, we're told, have re-scored the Young's test and the test of all other players who took it in his group. NFL teams will get the official Wonderlic results for all players later in the week. On Saturday, there was widespread chatter at the combine that Young got only six out of 50 questions right on the standard test used by the NFL to gauge player intelligence. The Nashville Tennessean corroborated the reports of the low score in its Sunday edition. Whether the actual number was 6 or 50 or something in between remains to be seen. It's a major embarrassment, in our view, for the folks who put on the combine. Because it's inevitable that this information will get out (indeed, Pro Football Weekly got their mitts on the full Wonderlic results from the 2005 combine), it's critical that the folks charged with grading the tests get it right. It's even more important that the scores are right before the information is leaked. We have a feeling that this one could get interesting. Stay tuned.
or maybe they could NOT LEAK the information. we dont have any need to know who scored what on the wonderlic test.
Anyone with half a brain who did 5 seconds of reasoning or research knew long ago that VY did not score a 6 on this test... even through random guessing, it's almost impossible to score that poorly... Not to mention that he's actually a bright kid...
copying my post over: Shame on all the people that blew it up into the firestorm it was. You people KNEW it was from PFT and you still drilled it into the ground. Even after my post trying to get you off the ledge you still went ahead with the Young bashing. PFT never knew the info, they never had the info, they are the biggest joke of a website ever created. They made it up just like they do everything else, they broke this story before the tests were EVER GRADED in the first place. They disgrace the internet with their mere presence. Seeing Vince called "illiterate" on this board when they don't even have anything close to a confirmed source... it's embarassing. The other thread gets 147 posts in 20 hours bashing him, but when it's discovered that the initial info was wrong, everyone's quiet. funny how that happens.
Actually, you're not stating what really happened. The reporters reported what they THOUGHT was true because officially his score had gone down as a 6. They didn't know WHY it was a 6, but it WAS a 6. This was also reported by Aaron Schatz on FootballOutsiders.com, and they do not report bullshit. It's not the reporters' fault the test was messed up by the administrator, they just gave the information they had which was that he scored a 6.
Again, when PFT first reported the news, the tests had not been graded yet. Other sites were reporting that SOURCES (meaning PFT) said that Young may have scored a 6, the rumor was even in a CNNSI column by Don Banks, they did not report it.
either way hes right that people on this board went crazy over the score and now that we're all pretty sure that vy indeed scored higher noones mentioning it...thats just human nature though
i could tell from listening to vince speak he was nowhere near iliterate. i dont care what he got on that test id like him on my team anyday.
It is not the fault of these media outlets for reporting what they were told... It's the fault of idiots on this site with pre-concieved racial stereotypes jumping all over the first tidbit of negative info they could find about this guy... WITHOUT taking a few minutes to look into his academic history or the actual percentage possibility of scoring this low...
It was kind of hard to believe, anyway. I mean, a cat could probably come close to scoring a 6 just by dabbing its paw in ink and placing it on an answer for each question.
Um...if they were right about the rumor, doesn't that mean the tests obviously WERE graded? How could they just magically guess the number 6?
Who was right about what rumor? Didn't they just post a retraction, saying that he didn't get a 6? Did the NFL come out and say that they screwed up? No, it's all from PFT. From the score, to the source, to the retraction.
People take anything from the Net and blow it up- the Rivers for Abraham rumor and this one are just two examples
On the money. I've been saying this for awhile. Nobody would believe Leinart or Cutler got the score, but since Vince is black he must be stupid. Disgusting.
I'm not surprised. This is good news for our Jets. I do wonder what he actually did get though. While I do agree with you and Russ Reign, I'd be careful with statements like that. People on this board seem to get pretty defensive when people say stuff like that.
If someone had told me Daunte Culpepper or Brett Favre got this low a score, I might actually think it true for a moment because they can both barely put a sentence together (still it's practically impossible to get a SIX though)... But anyone who has heard VY interviewed knows he isn't stupid... It just riles me up to no end when people OBVIOUSLY take race into account so much on something like this...
I've also seen people say it's because of the way he speaks in interviews. I watched the interview after the Rose Bowl, and he didn't sound retarded to me. I thought he handled himself very well. If anything, he has a Texas accent. For some reason it's okay for Pennington and Peyton to have Southern accents, but Vince's Texas' accent somehow negatively demarcates him from normal intelligence.
I'm not sure that it is about race. People stereotype the type of player that Young is because he is a good athlete. Hence all of the complaints about his passing. From there, it's easy to imagine him being stupid because he is a superior athlete. I suspected this for awhile, but I can see how some could be suckered in by this rumor. For some, it may have been easy to believe because of race, but I'm not sure that this is the reason for most of the people who believed this.
