Fully agree Mr E , amazes me that people cannot see that TJ/SG are basically the same style of RB. LT is a typical west coast offense back i.e he can catch out of the backfield and is still a presence as a back up

Tomilson is not replacing Jones. Greene will be the featured back on this team with LT and Leon being 2 and 3. Jones was the featured back last year and was injured going down the stretch. I think with that, it is imperitive that the JETS have Leon back. In reflection, the JETS probably should have had Greene more involved in the offence earlier in the season, vs. having him play a bigger role when Leon went down. LT and TJ are completely different backs, which give the team 2 different looks. Personally, I like the move and with Leon in the mix give our team many different options vs. Ground and Pound.

TJ broke down in the playoffs that's why Greene got the bulk of the carries, whose to say he wouldn't break down during the season? Greene also broke more tackles and showed breakaway speed, something Jones couldn't do...LT is a good receiver, another intangible and smells the goal line in the red zone...put LT and Shonne together and I think we improved at the position..

i guess so, i didn't really see that as the point of the article and it certainly wasn't the point of the thread. i don't really have any problem with peyton bashing so no harm no foul.

I don't know...I distinctly saw some tear smudges on the ink in that original post. I suppose it could have just been raining on your keyboard, though.

TJ and Greene are not the same type of back. TJ never broke tackles last season and always tripped over the line of scrimmage. The Greene Machine broke tackles and ran people over on the way to the end zone.

Greene can't catch, so LT was brought in because we need someone to take the 3rd down reps while Leon is getting back up to game speed. The only thing that LT is providing that we lost with Jones is (hopefully) veteran leadership and a compliment to Greene on early downs (once Leon is back).

The only instance in which this would change is in the event that someone gives up a 2nd for Leon.

I have to think the Jets did their homework here. The only real whiff by this management team has been Gholston and he was a draft pick out of college, as far as NFL talent they've done a good job. They probably looked at the $6 million it would have taken to keep Jones as a 2nd back and said "we could probably go get LT to do it for less than that", which they did. Maybe keeping Jones was the first choice but he didn't want to stay and not get 25 carries a game, you don't know.

Throw in the variables that Greene is still somewhat unproven over 16 games and Leon is coming off a serious injury, I'm comfortable having LT as the other guy in the equasion. A lot more comfortable than with a rookie they might have drafted or another journeyman, it's LT.

100% AGREE! LT brings a totally new dimension to this team. Greene is the Jets featured back with a lot of upside. Leon is Leon. The different looks this offense could present will keep opposing defenses off balance. Plus don't underestimate what a fantastic O line could do for LT. He was behind a nice o line but nothing like the Jets o line. Plus the Chargers offense has become more pass oriented in the last 2 seasons. So the Jets are fine and I like the move a lot. TJ was good, but disappearing in the playoffs, the complaining about the contract and probably ego about taking a backseat to Greene was his ticket out of town.

I think this was a great pickup. Most people are judging LT off last season which was by far the worst of his career. He was also never healthy the entire season. Also if you watched any Chargers games last year during the regular season you could see that the SD offensive scheme was fully intent on phasing LT out of it. He really wasn't part of their plan at all last year.

This guy has a chance to really rejuvenate himself this year in our scheme. He's not the LT of 4 years ago but he still has enough ability and football smarts to be highly productive for us. He's an excellent receiver out of the backfield, a great teammate and can still make the first defender miss.

I think used in the right capacity LT could really make us a better offense in 2010.

Cant go thru all these responses but first of all I have a really hard time believing that TJ gave Jets right of first refusal on KC deal. How would the Jets not have matched that especially when they didnt even know if they had a shot at LT. I think TJ had his feelings hurt and just decided he couldnt go back to Jets. Additionally, the Jets offensive line is miles better than SD on run blocking, who knows how much better LT can do running behind these road graders. Thirdly, for crying out loud Rex and Tanny have taken us from oblivion have some Faith.

Very relaxed as it happens, 2 bottles of Veuve Clicquot does that.

Whats pissng me off is people mis-quoting me and assuming that I hate the LT pick up and hate losing TJ. I'm not a fan of letting TJ go and think that things could have been handled a bit better, in & out of the press.
(OMG - sorry) What alarms me more than anything is the state of the current 3 HBs that we will be using:
    - LT: we just don't know how he will perform. Behind a solid O line he should do well. He will help Sanchez out immeasurably. But age issues are a concern.
    - Green: You know what I think already.
    - Leon: IF hes still here, is he going to be happy with the workload that get offered to him, and , (most important) will he still be able to perform as the Leon of old?

Massive question marks for me. No Fuckin tears

Boy, does the media hate us. Everyone on the radio, both 660 & 1050 are killing us. Its funny how they bring up LT's game against us but don't bring up TJ's game against the Colts where it was over as soon as Greene went down. Or the fact that this years roll is different then last years so the Jets felt LT was a better fit. No, they just compare the 2 players from last year. It just never ends and BTW I am not including Francesa because I don't listen to him anymore. Ian O'Connor is the king of Jet haters, always has been

Yeap, it's funny how TJ became the best UFA available as soon as the Jets cut him loose, yet when he was a Jet, you barely heard his name mentioned. They would talk about the 'Top ranked rushing offense', and then give credit to the O-line. Now that he's not a Jet, he's a serious loss. Wha-eva.

That's another good point. If he stayed a Jet, they would have made him an over the hill, aging, RB that lived off a great line and the most overpaid athlete in NY. Now, he's Curtis Martin at his peak. We saw the jet hate in the playoffs so no one should be suprised.
