Thanks for the post, WSW. It's good to know they have great expectations of Cromartie. High expectations lead to high standards and pressure, which is exactly what Cromartie was missing from Norval. If anyone's going to get him to play tough consistently, it's Rex.
As much as I like your well informed insight, do you have any forums you could troll at besides this one?
Come on, he's been a good poster for the most part. As far as that last comment, I'd imagine a coaching staff with any sort of teeth could bring the effort out of Cromartie.
How am I trolling? I'm just posting what i know and have seen. And if LT ends up here then I might have to stick around You guys are probably going to get the best out of him because the chargers can never do anything right. However he hates tackling, and i'm not sure you can teach toughness.
I think Cromartie's freakish athleticism was wasted in the zone scheme with no pass rush in SD the last 2 years. I also think Rex and Pettine will do a great job maximizing his physical abilities in our defense. Of course there's a chance he busts here, but it's more likely that he flourishes in this system IMO.
eh,the difference is rhodes is a safety who is required to make tackles and deliver hits on most plays.
Pretty unlikely he busts imo. He was a solid cover corner for us this year (unlike last year when he didn't try). He started off the season bad, but stepped it up. From week 4-17 he really only got burnt once. However he plays off receivers so that he doesn't get burnt.....rather than being close and physical. He would definitely benefit from a strong pass rush. Not sure how he'll do having everything thrown his way though (since teams will avoid Revis).
Well, with the #1 receiver on Revis island every game and the QB in deep sh!t every down. I think he will like it here just fine.
Yea, it was a broken hip he played with. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/...2-cb-cromartie-played-08-season-br/?uniontrib
The guy has made so many excuses, I wouldn't be surprised if he made it up. He started out the first 4 games of 2009 sucking balls, but finally got his act together during the bye week (when AJ Smith called out the defense for being soft). During the 2009 offseason we heard about Merriman chewing him out one practice because he was half-assing it. His other explanations for sucking in 2008: -All of his children issues were a distraction -he wasn't giving it 100% and thought he could rely strictly on his talent (after his 10 int 2007 season), and said in 2007 his success came easy to him Yea after being traded. Shortly after the Jets game, on his twitter someone mentioned his lack of effort on the Greene TD.....and Cromartie replied "I wasn't the only one who missed a tackle that play" (referring to Eric Weddle, who actually tried to tackle, but took a bad angle and got run over)
Well according to the article I posted he broke the hip in the first game of 2008. I'd say playing with a BROKEN hip is a pretty good "excuse". And as I've said, I think his talents were wasted in that scheme SD was running. Rex and Pettine won't make the same mistake.
