That might be the most accurate statement you've made..... My guess is this Marty must know LT or somebody very close to him to report this. It seems odd for somebody to risk their credibility as a journalist to report it not once but twice. Obviously I won't believe it until it's officially announced but I have a good feeling Marty has some dirt.
I haven't seen this much speculation since the whole Cowher ordeal. We do manage to keep offseasons interesting, I'll have to admit.
That nasty bull-dyke that calls itself Marty reported something similar earlier today on her Twitter:
She isnt on the air. She is a producer. It isnt like Shefter reporting i know but she has contacts in the biz so id say the news is good but still not official but only because she dont work for the NFL. Im sure they are keeping tabs on LT. That station has many, many Chargers on for interviews all the time and they follow what is happening. Now to the guys that are calling LT injury prone.......LT has been very , very durable and only the past two seasons has he been dinged that has made him sit out and he still hasnt sat out much. Comparing him to Fargas is kinda funny but you cant compare those two. Fargas dont even have 1,000 carries to his name and has missed more game than LT. LT has 2,880 carries and over 500 receptions in his career so yes, he is slowing down a bit and has lost a step and isnt the same back he was but with a good OL, he can be more efective than he was for us. He dont have that cutting ability that he used to. I wish him luck whereever he goes and i want to see him get a ring which,.......... is shame if he choses the AFC because if it comes to that, i hope we end that dream if it is against us. Im a selfish fan
I don't think they sign anyone purely to sell PSLs. People want to see a good team so obviously the better we are the more tickets we sell, but I don't buy for a second that PSLs are a factor in any signing.
i keep thinking there has to be something there that we dont know. maybe his knees are worse then we think. in a way it makes sense since KC was the only place that really showed interest and offered him a contract and out of respect for jones maybe the jets didnt release any information to the media about it
I can't believe we are going after LT when Marshall Faulk and Emmit Smith are still available. This is an awful signing. There are hundreds of running backs in the NFL that are a better option than LT, who is DONE. Name me 30+ year old running backs with as many carries as LT who have ever had anything left once the decline started? The answer is none. The only RBs who had good years in their 20s and 30s were ones who sat for a year or two (Marcus Allen, OJ Anderson). Jones has far more left than LT, and I think Jones is done. LT is slow and old. When will the Jets learn to stay away from has beens with big name recognition??? I am very disappointed if this signing is true.
I know a few people in the business but I can vouch that a lot of times the producers have more knowledge then the hosts about what is going on. That's what they are paid to do, while the hosts are paid to talk about it. She's the one responsible for booking the guests so I'm not doubting for one bit that she knows people within the organization or people close to LT like his agent or his PR people. I just won't believe anything until it's on NFL Network.
Maybe TJ didn't want to come back. Before LT was released from the Chargers, he said he was not willing to restructure his contract/take a paycut.
Well, how many RBs even had as many carries as Tomlinson through the age of 30? You may or may not remember this but in early 1998 there was a lot of talk that Emmitt Smith was starting to decline, that all the carries had begun to take their toll. Well, he ended up having four more 1000+ yard seasons. Also, there was a lot of talk that Martin was done after the 2003 season. We know what he did the next year. After that 2003 season, I remember arguing with a lot of non-Jets fans that Martin was going to have one more big year because his production was halted a bit due to nagging injuries in 2002 and 2003. There have been some other RBs, though, who did have good seasons after they had started to fall apart. Larry Csonka 1974 Miami- 749 rush yds, 3.8 avg, turned 28 as season was winding down (Csonka was born on Christmas) 1975 Memphis Southmen, World Football League 1976 Giants- 569 rush yds, 3.6 avg 1977 Giants- 464 rush yds, 3.5 avg 1978 Giants- 311 rush yds, 3.4 avg 1979 Miami- 837 rush yds, 3.8 avg- 13 total touchdowns, 33 years old when season ended There was a guy who was declining ever since his three straight years of 1000+ rushing yards (1971-73) and then he ended his career with a solid season in 1979 when he was sharing carries with Delvin Williams (184 att, 703 yds, 3.8 avg). How about MacArthur Lane? The Newspaper Enterprise Association (a legit selecting organization that announced All-Pro teams from 1955-92) selected Lane and Larry Brown as their 1st team RBs in 1970. Lane's 1970 stats: 206 att, 977 yds, 4.7 avg, 11 rush TDs, 32 rec, 365 yds, 11.4 avg, 2 rec TDs He struggled from 1973-75. 1973: 528 rush yds, 3.1 avg 1974: 362 rush yds, 2.6 avg 1975: 311 rush yds, 3.9 avg He rebounded in 1976 at the age of 34. He was the starting fullback for Kansas City. 162 att, 542 yds, 3.3 avg, 5 rush TDs, 66 rec, 686 yds, 10.4 avg, 1 rec TD He led the NFL in receptions that year. Not bad for a 220 pound fullback who apparently had been declining.
I can't believe we are about to be the team that Let TJ go and signed LT. Wow, This has got to be one of the dumbest things I've seen the JETS do. I love BOTH backs so dislike is not an issue but everything on the table signing TJ was a logical move. Which leads me to believe the quotes above are on to something....
