http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2010/03/forecasting-leons-future.html I've said from the start, the tender move is a win/win for the Jets. If we lose Leon, we get a really nice pick, in a really nice 2nd round. If not, we get a guy we know can play, has an incredible work ethic, and is said to be well "ahead of schedule" in his rehab. The only way this can go bad is if he somehow makes his way to a division rival. With the Pats resigning Faulk, I don't see that happening. If he does get signed, I personally wouldn't mind seeing him hop over to Philly so we can watch him beat up on the Giants 2-3 times a year.
Hah, I was thinking the same thing. But f*** it, the offseason's slow, I don't mind speculation articles that aren't totally off base.
Wasn't Faulk just resigned by the Pansies? I thought that Sproles was on his way out the door in San Diego, no?
seems like the biggest concern in that group would be the Packers. They have said before that they want to upgrade from Brandon Jackson, Deshaun Wynn, Ahman Green and any other back that they plug behind grant, who is also just above scrub status. Unless they are committed to one more year of Green I can see it being a possibility, but I expect Leon to be to be in the green and white next year.
Us getting a second round pick is not necessarily a win-win situation. We have no idea what this pick will turn in to. Leon was drafted in the fourth round and he turned out great, but on the other hand VG was picked 6th overall and he is up there with major busts. What I'm saying is we never know what we are truly getting, especially in the second round. We know what Leon is and I'm almost 100% sure he'll be back and better then ever. You all know if we trade Leon for a second rounder and whoever we pick is a bust, we'll all be saying we should've kept Leon. If a team with a better second round pick makes an offer I'd feel a tad more comfortable.
You may be, but myself, many other fans, and, most importantly, management aren't quite so sure. I'm not arguing against keeping Leon, cause I f***in' love him as one of my favorite Jets, but keep in mind both his age and the fact that his style of play doesn't fit easily into Rex's "ground 'n pound" style of offense. He may be back at 100%, he may not. And what if we draft, say, Hardesty with that 2nd rounder and he becomes the next Terrell Davis? All you can do is weigh decisions based on what you perceive to be good/bad value. This draft is considered by many to be deep, making a 2nd rounder great value. You can say a rookie is a question mark, but the same applies to a RB coming of a leg injury. His age, for me, would be the tie breaker. Seeing as how the Raiders just released Fargas, and Al Davis is senile, could it be plausible they'd be willing to part with 39? Just speculating, of course...
I don't know if the Vikings could afford Washington, but Peterson, Washington and Harvin all in the same offense is downright terrifying
It is, but no way is Favre having another season like he did last year, and we all know that a running game will only get you so far.
I don't understand the concern with losing Leon. In much the same fashion as Thomas Jones, better to have him go one year too soon than one year too late. Plus, why would the Jets give big $$$ to Leon when he... -Only averaged 12 total touches per game since being a Jet (that includes runs/receptions/PR/KR) and only 1 TD every 3 games. When you remove KR/PR from the equation that equals only 9 touches a game and 1 TD per 3.5 games (and no TDs in 2009). -Is going to be 28 when the season starts, coming off a serious leg injury that will probably mean he will not be fully recovered (both mentally and physically) or even return to form (if he even does) until 2011 when he will be 29 (oh and there may be a lockout that year as well). -His KR and PR touches can be picked up by someone else on the roster and his position in the "Wildcat" can be better filled by Brad Smith (as demonstrated during the last 2 games of the regular season and 3 playoff games). -The 2010 draft is, according to the experts, the deepest in recent memory and the RB position is both the easiest position on a team to fill and the position with the shortest career expectancy. -And despite his absence, the team beat two division winners on the road and had the lead at halftime on the road against the Colts in the AFCG. Somehow, someway, if the Jets get a 2nd round pick for Leon from any team, Mike T should just smile and nod all the way to the bank. Heck I would take even a 2010 3rd rd pick and a 2011 7th rounder at this point.
We also have no idea how Leon will play next season. If it was a guarantee that he would be back to his old form than the Jets would have signed him by now.
No, Sproles at first was on his way out, but the day before FA started the Chargers said they were keeping him.
Yep. They pulled an anti-Atogwe and eventually tendered him at high value. He's as good a locked up for this season. Nobody's going to pay his compensation.
