5 NFC Championship Games and 1 Super Bowl appearance and they want to get rid of him!! Report: Reid is about the only one who wants to keep McNabb By MJD According to a report this morning at myfoxphilly.com, there's a bit of friction within the Eagles organization about whether or not they should trade or keep Donovan McNabb. It seems they're getting a lot of offers for the veteran quarterback. Head coach Andy Reid wants to keep him. "The Eagles' brass" wants to move him. In their words: There are many interested teams out there, but right now the Eagles are not accepting any offers yet. Sources tell Fox 29's sports department that the Rams are not one of those teams, contrary to some reports. But we're also being told that trading McNabb is not going to be easy because internally the Eagles' brass wants to move him but Andy Reid does not. My first thought is to give some free advice to the brass, whoever that might be: Listen to Andy Reid. He's the one on the field, seeing what works and what doesn't. He's the one who sees the quarterbacks working every day. He knows what's going to win you games, if indeed that is your objective. If you're looking to save money, get younger and rebuild, fine. But if you want to win football games, listen to your football guy. If true, it makes for an interesting little situation, not only in terms of what happens this offseason, but all the way through 2010. If there is significant friction, and Reid stands firm with McNabb, you've got to think that the "brass" might tie Reid and McNabb's fortunes together, based on their performance next year.
I've always thought he was really under appreciated by the eagles and their fan base. He has been a great quarterback for a long time and has brought them success year after year. They don't know what you have until they lose it. without mcnab, they eagles will be hovering at or below 500 for years to come....
The Eagles would be a hated team if it wasn't for Mcnabb. I liked him when he went to Syracuse was hoping we would get him back then
I like McNabb too. He's my favorite non Jets QB in the NFL. I love how he learned to be a professional QB unlike the fraud Daunte Culpepper.
Let them trade away McNabb... and when they have some scrub-ass QB that ends up under center throwing interception after interception... they are going to long for the days of McNabb. I just can't believe they think this is a good move. The guy is a solid QB in this league still.. you just don't trade one of those away without some gold in your pocket first. Mike Vick = Fools Gold.
McNabb has been a great player for them. But I am guessing the glimpse they saw of Kolb as a starter has them convinced he can do it.
Agreed. Always loved D-Mac as a QB, but he has consistently choked is the big games. Kolb did look really good, perhaps another Schaub in the wings. With this move Philly will go back to being Philly...and D-Mac will get one last chance to prove he isn't a mamma's boy.
McNabb is a great QB. He can make all the throws, and I think he gets too much of the blame for Philly's postseason failures. I'd hate to see McNabb go to Buffalo.
Mcnabbs at the end of his career. The guy has maybe 3 more years left. Kolb is the future of that team, and if they could get a 2nd round pick for Mcnabb they would be much better off for it. They got some young stars, and a 2nd rounder in this draft could be a great player who would be around for years. (that said I also hate Mcnabb more than any player in the NFL expect for Brady)
QB is one of the positions where you don't just chuck a player, especially if he still has 3 seasons left (like you said). I could see if he was broken down with bad injuries and looking like the tank is empty, but this cat has plenty of football left him, and unlike positions like RB, QBs generally get better or stay static in terms of performance - with age.
Unless you have a new guy ready to step up. Look what Green Bay did with Favre. They dumped him (albeit not for much) because they had a new guy ready to step in and go. And it worked out rather well for them. If Philly feels like Kolb is their future (which I think they do) then you gotta trade Mcnabb while hes got value.
I wouldn't necessarily compare Favre and McNabb. Favre on one hand was a non-stop, annual media circus who consistently put the organization into a tailspin with his "should I stay, or should I go" schtick. McNabb on the other hand has been a stand up guy and despite the ration of shit that gets thrown his way he stays above it. I really believe at this point that if Favre wouldn't have been such a douchebag with the Packers, he'd still be playing there and potentially retiring this year or next. All that being said, I am not completely familiar with Kolb and whether he is THE guy to take the helm next or not. I know he's done a decent job backing McNabb up when he's out with an injury. And you are right, there is something to be said about taking advantage of value while you can with a player. You don't have to squeeze the last drop of juice out of the fruit before changing over. If Kolb is the future of Philly, it will make for an interesting storyline. Edit: Some on the Eagles may believe Kolb is the future. I find it interesting that Reid doesn't seem to be in that camp. Is it because he doesn't have faith in Kolb, or is he being faithful to a guy that he has been able to rely on through the years?
There are thousands of Bills fans that have been saying this. I'd like it, but only if we give up one draft pick (2nd round, tops).
Philly fans have never truly appreciated having a great QB in McNabb. one of my fav non-Jets prolly. only couple years left in the tank but if I myself were a Eagles fan I'd say ride it out till hes done. then again that would make me a somewhat reasonable Eagles fan. reality just imploded
This...... Man think of all the love this place gives a mediocre QB like Pennington that has not won shit. Yet Philly shits all over a real QB that has, just not the big game. I just do not get it.
He has suffered from the stigma of not being Ricky Williams since he was drafted. I still cannot believe how fucking stupid the Eagles fans are. I also cannot figure out why McNabb has been so insistent on staying with the Eagle all these years. He must really love Andy Reid.
