Now that some of the cuts are becoming official it looks like there are some excellent options for the Jets to pick up. Here are just a few I could see the Jets pick up to put them over the top:

Antrel Rolle: OFFICIALLY cut. He will be a hot commodity but would give jets leverage with Rhodes or possible but Rolle at Corner

Antawn Randel El: I think he would be PERFECT. He excels in the slot and would add a veteran presense for us but not as old as.....

Lava Coles: Just officially cut by the bengals. We all know his history. But he is still tough and could be a tough slot guy over the middle....health a huge issue

Jamal Williams: He is older then Jenks and a lot of injuries but NT's tend to hand around (look at Pat William) and would anyone complain about being able to rotate TWO 360+ pounders at the all important NT position. I know we'd like to get younger but this would be a huge pick up if we really feel we can go to the SB this year.(which most believe we can).

Rock Cartwright: Solid special teamer, great 3rd back. Could be the ideal "third guy" in the ground and pound. If Leon/greene take off then he wont b*tch about carries, but he can handle 5-10 carries a game to take the heat off if there are any problems with our transition from TJ.

Cromartie: Not cut yet but its leaning that way. The chargers are losing trade leverage by the day. If it costs a 5th I'd jump at it and complete our defensive backfield.

    Thoughts?

Antrel Rolle and Laveraneus Coles seem like good options, and possibly Cromartie if he is cut.

I'm waiting on cro.. he is really the only person i would care about getting.. Randel el could fill a few holes, but wouldn't be a huge impact..

Calling Rock Cartwright a great runningback is an insult to great runningbacks. But he's not a bad option as the #3. I wouldn't want him carrying the load in case of injury though. He's good competition for Chauncey Washington though.

Just read that Antrel Rolle is in contract negotiations with Da Bears and it could be a done deal in the next few hours. Source: Thejetsblog twitter

The Redskins have released RB Marcus Mason. Mason, you’ll remember was hard-charging runner who had a cup of coffee with the Jets during the 2008 season. He is something of a binkie of mine — as much as a guy who’s basically never done anything for the Jets can be, I guess.

He was signed off the Redskins practice squad in late October of 2008, and was waived when the Jets drafted Shonn Greene. Mason then went back to the Redskins for much of the 2009 season, playing behind Portis and Rock Cartwright.

Mason led the league during the 2008 preseason, something that sounds rather innocuous, but is a mantle that he’s shared with Brandon Jacobs (2006), Chester Taylor (2005), Steven Jackson (2004).

Should we pick up any former Redskin? No, "because they were all bad" (Arnold voice)

Randel El and Cartwright are garbage.

We have no restriction on signing Rolle, if we trade Rhodes, correct?

EDIT: Well, it looks like he's going to the Bears anyway.

Crazy how the Chargers have cut/traded LT, Williams, and Cromartie, who just 3 years ago were the very elite at their position in the NFL.

I said Cartwright is a great special teamer and THIRD back, not that he should carry the full time load. I think he fills an excellent role on the team, you cant have starters at every depth spot.

I also think Randel El would be PERFECT not because he is so much more talented then a clowney or smith but because of how well he fits in the slot and that is where he has success before he was wildly overpaid by a mr dan snyder....
