I wonder if the locker room would have a problem if we decided not to re-sign him after this season (hypothetically). Who's going to fill the leadership role on offense this season? Sanchez, Leon, and Mangold are prime candidates I think.
Thomas Jones can easily come back if he wanted to, so if he doesn't it isn't entirely on the front office.
Don't be surprised if this isn't either a ploy to get him to renegotiate his contract. Also, we may offer him a contract after we release him, ala Brandon Moore of last year. We save 3.3mil for not paying the roster bonus, and still obtain his services this year. You just never know what how the wheels are spinning in the FO
Leon Washington? No way. He probably won't be brought back after 2010's season. Like Murrell said: This is Mark Sanchez's team now. He has to step up... Darrelle Revis and Bart Scott have to lead this defense.
offer Jones the same salary and his nixed roster bonus as achievement bonus' based on last season so he can potentially make the same amount, he just has to earn it.
I think Sanchez is going to be a great leader for us. You saw glimpses of it during the season. Now with a year under his belt I fully expect him to take the leadership role.
Probably because the Front Office was truthful and I'm sure Jones saw the writing on the wall when Shonn Greene was ripping off playoff game winning TD runs. You produce when you play. Plain and simple.
Rich Cimini is a bitchass. He's always making up these "anonymous" quotes from players. I call bullshit.
Oh gee how did I figure before I saw the ink that this article was the work of Cimini. Man does that asshole need to be stuffed into a locker. Where is Richard Todd when you need him.
I'm seriously not understanding this move at all, can someone please explain the benefit of releasing Thomas Jones to me?? First of all, THERE IS NO SALARY CAP THIS YEAR, so I refuse to believe that money is the reason. Second, he doesn't have to start, but shouldn't we at least be keeping him for depth? Leon Washington is coming off a seriously leg injury, and will not be 100% by the start of the season. (I had a friend who broke his leg sophomore in high school, he was an amazing athlete, easily one of the best in our school, if not, the best....anyway he did not fully recover until senior year. I understand Leon is a pro athlete and he has professional trainers and yada yada yada, but the reality is he is a speed back who relies on his quick cuts and he will not be able to do that at 100% by September.) Also, do not forget that Shonn Greene was injured during the colts playoff game. I am not saying that he is injury prone, but it is a cause for concern going into next season with 2 injured backs. Third, Thomas Jones is in the final year of his 4 year contract!! Just let the guy play out his contract!! I just honestly see no benefit to releasing him, I mean seriously, the guy just had his best season ever! If anyone can think of any positive benefit of this release please let me know because I am so pissed at the front office for doing this to one of our best players. If anyone should be getting released it should be Vernon. I just hope I don't see Jones in a patriots jersey next season. :gpc:
Im just stating my case man. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion in this. Obviously you have none.
Your right, I didn't read through 7 + pages and multiple threads about Thomas Jones. I simply decided to ask peoples opinions myself. I have listened to ESPN radio and watched ESPN and NFL Network and not one person could give a positive reason for Jone's release, so i decided to voice my opinion here.
recall the last time a 32 year old running back had a 1400 yard season and 14 TDs? because he has to do that again to justify paying him the 6 mil he was going to be paid. and for what its worth - some posters on here are better than ESPN. NFL Network is on par with us.
