Why take Michael Bush in a draft class that has Adrian Peterson in it? Lots of guys have talent, but I'm saying he can be something special, while filling some holes for us in the here and now. This is the root of what I'm trying to say. - CJ Spiller will be at least as good as LW this season, plus he has the potential to carry us a few years down the road. - With TJ gone, and LW likely to take off for big money (or stay for even more), the Jets' run-based offense is getting to be more and more in need for a back who can carry us a few years down the road. - If we get a back who can carry us a few years down the road, we can at least try to trade LW for something. Whatever we can get for him will give us a surer answer to our defense's needs than I think we can get in this draft with these picks. This doesn't have to have anything to do with Cromartie. So I think the Jets should move up for Spiller.
No, he doesn't. CJ Spiller has amazing speed and great versatility, but he'll never be a feature back. While playing at Clemson, he proved that he can't take a lot of punishment. Once again, Spiller cannot carry a team. His best fit is in a committee. I think he'll be a very dangerous player, but he's not even a 15 carry a game back. There's no such thing as a back of the future in this offense. The Jets have to build a BACKFIELD for the future. Shonn Greene is the first piece to that puzzle. I think the Jets need another powerful runner like Ryan Mathews or Toby Gerhart to pair with Greene. I don't understand why you think CJ Spiller can carry a team. He couldn't even take the punishment at the college level. He'll wear down quickly if he isn't used sparingly in the NFL. With what? We can't afford to trade up in this draft. It's incredibly deep at a ton of positions.
You tell me. In a load of edits you seem to have switched your mission from scaring me off of RFAs to simply trying to attack me in as many different ways as you can in one post. You have yet to give a single reason for either. I'm dying to know. Lots of other teams (or their fan's forums, anyway) seem to be pretty high on Kerry Rhodes. I don't know, I guess I'm just not in love with the possibility of losing Rhodes and Leon for nothing when there's a shot (however tiny) of landing such a huge NFL-ready talent.
Fans being high on Kerry Rhodes doesn't mean that teams that actually know football will be. 98% of fans don't know shit about football and think that over hyped and highlight reel guys are gods, so don't say that since enemy teams fan forums are high on Rhodes, that he could be serious leverage to move to a top 15 pick in the best draft in decades.
For nothing? CJ Spiller is just as much of a gamble as anyone else in this draft. He's far from being a sure thing. The guy could turn out to be a glorified return specialist for all we know. Kerry Rhodes and our first round pick would maybe move us up a spot. The guy's not worth that much. Spiller will be a top fifteen pick. It'll be impossible to draft him.
Rhodes should not land us any more than a 3rd round pick and our 1st and a 3rd would not be able to move us up high enough to get Spiller. We would have to trade away almost our entire draft, something we cannot afford. Just going by the draft value chart: -our first rounder = 640 -the best 3rd we can get, the Rams' = 265 that would put us at 905, enough for the 18th overall. That's three spots away from the minimum pick away from getting Spiller.
Have Spiller's injury troubles been touched on? Because I remember a post about our injury prone RBs and Spiller has been injured all season. We are not moving up for Spiller, its a bad idea for this franchise. Can we let this thread die now?
Moving up for nearly anyone this year would be a bad idea for this franchise. Stand pat or trade down. Shit, I was supposed to let this thread die.
Maaaaaaaan! Yeah, I deserved that on a couple fronts. Sorry, guys. I'm done. (THE OFFSEASON IS SOOOO LOOOOOOOOOOONG)
I wasn't saying that you were one of these people...I was just saying that is true in general. I think CJ Spiller will be good too it's just unrealistic that the Jets will get him.
I was making fun of the fact you went back and edited your post to be a smarmy douche. If you do not like it done to you, here is an idea, don't fucking do it to others. Difficult concept huh? See here is an edit (which is what my first original edit was) that actually adds and isn't to be a smarmy douche: Edit: The reason the Jets are not going to be swimming in the RFA pool is they do not the have picks to go after these type of players. It makes absolutely zero sense to play in this area of free agency. In fact even with all the RFA's on the market, I doubt any team is going to be a big player and would be surprised if more than a handful switch teams. If it does happen it will not be with many 2nd round or better players. It is similar to trading up to get a running back in the first round.......It is too expensive.
