Basics for those that wont' get to watch the replay. Mark Sanchez let us know how good on the feild down the stretch he can be. Ready to open the playbook. Like his own players. Rather for his own players improve than trade all over the place. Sounds like he want to keep Thomas Jones. Talk about his trust in TJ. B ut Mike T will make the call as we know. Basiclly everything we already knew. No real inside info. I was wishing upon an update from REX. The network is reporting the Jets will not pick up Thomas Jones bonus.
Damn it, how the heck are we going to rely on Shone Greene and Leon, who's coming off a huge injury. This is insane, at least try and sit down with the guy!
TJ is going to be 32 and showed signs of being out of gas and was hurt down the stretch. This is the exact moment you say goodbye to someone rather than paying for them and then during the season there is a thread asking why TJ wasn't cut.
I know what you mean. We all saw how TJ ran towards the end of the season, he is in decline, no doubt about it, but we need another back, and his leadership alone is worth a few million. At least sit down and talk to the guy and try and work something out. Leon is coming off a big injury, we dont know how he'll be on the field, and as much as I love Shone Greene, he's unproven as a number 1 RB.
welp, don't panic over TJ's release. It marks a transition to a far more balanced offense. 1- look for us to draft/sign a slot receiver -or- keller moves to the slot and we will draft/sign an acutal tight end who can block AND catch the rock. either way, greene and leon will see a lot fewer run plays next year than they did last year. 2- 3 RB's in a non-run-first-team's backfield will get real crowded real fast. most teams would KILL to have a young Greene and a fast 'lil Leon sharing yardage. 3- sanchez will spend training camp throwing underneath to the slot and screens to leon. Two important weapons the team will need to transition to a balanced attack. So it's not really a question of whether or not to keep TJ. It's a question of Sanchez getting better and more leathal with a well rounded, hard to defend passing attack, or keeping TJ and having a repeat of last year's run and then run some more (except with players one year older and one year slower).
^Exactly my feelings. Sure, we'll carry a run heavy offense this yr, but we didn't draft Sanchez 5th overall and pay him $50 millions to be a 'game manager'. He will swing it a little more this coming year and hopefully will develop into a great QB the following year, making us a completely balanced team.
what exactly that has been reported leads you to believe they haven't sat down with him and simply did not come to an agreement. just because you are disappointed doesn't mean they didn't try. please explain how you came to your conclusion that they have not tried to sit down with him and thus need to.
It has been documented that TJ balked at restructuring. Many of the people reporting he is being released have said so. Basically, they said we like you but like you for less and TJ said, "Cool story Bro"..........
I was not aware of that. I said that because I have been following this and have not heard anything about Tanny sitting down with TJ. If this is the case I take it back. I have to support Tanny, as I will no matter what. I trust the guy 110%
Also remember back during Curtis Martin's final year where they were hoping he would come back the next season and then we were left with a huge hole at RB when he couldn't come back. It's better to get rid of an over-30 RB too early than too late.
Good post. I think a lot of people are expecting us to go in to next season with the same 60% or more running based attack. I don't belive that is going to happen unless Sanchez regresses badly. He will have had more than a year under his belt leading this offense and studying opposing defenses, things should only get better, as our attack becomes more blalnced it will be harder to defend against. Losing Thomas Jones, but having Leon and Edwards for a full season should only help the offense. Sanchez's continued development should help the offense. Jenkins back should improve the defense. This team is looking better already predraft. Its a good offseason to be a Jets fan.
