If those stats are right that means out of 379 snaps he blitzed 54.5% of the time while blitzing 5.3% of time he got a QB pressure. Overall 2.9% of the plays he was on the field for he got a QB pressure. When he blitzed he got a QB hit every 0.48% and out of every play he was on the field for he got a QB hit 0.26% of the time. over two years of play as the #6 overall selection how can anyone not believe this guy is a bust when looking at the numbers and the percentages
I'm more concerned at his inability to get on the field than by what he's done when he's been out there. His opportunities are limited and sporadic, it's hard to get any rhythm going and he clearly struggles with a lot of things. If he had more play time I'd guess his stats would pick up, but the CS don't seem confident in him, which to me is the more damning indictment, as opposed to stats.
well he can't get on the field because he obviously hasnt shown he deserves the PT. The first four games of the season he got free starts, and played the majority of the game, and still did nothing with his pt. I would be curious to know his number of career tackles... edit: according to Gholston's profile on ESPN he has 30 career regular season tackles and 2 career postseason tackles. He recorded 17 tackles this season (less than 1 a game counting postseason), which means that last year he recorded 13 tackles. Oh and of those 30 career tackles 13 were assisted. meaning he helped bring the guy to the ground... I don't know how many people can be credited with an assisted tackle on a single play, but that means nearly half of gholstons career tackles were recorded as an assist
Gholston isn't depth. Its a waste of a roster space. I can get a 7th rounder to do what he does for a fraction of the price.
Honestly, Vernon Gholston is a dumbass. There's no point in even watching him play because he just does the same stupid bullrush on every down. Apparently, as a kid, he looked up to the Ultimate Warrior, obviously not a football player.
True. Obviously his stats have sucked, but that's not what makes him a bust.. stats rarely tell the whole story. He just doesn't seem to have the desire or the ability required to be a great player. Brian Thomas had equally lackluster stats this season but that's just something we've come to expect. It is kind of interesting that the CS went out of their way to say Gladys will be back next year though.
According to ProFootballFocus.com, Jets OLB Vernon Gholston has totaled just 11 QB pressures and one QB hit in his first two seasons. He has zero sacks. Gholston has blitzed 207 times over that span on 379 defensive snaps. In other words, he is averaging just one "pressure" every 18 times he rushes the passer. Gholston was the No. 6 overall pick in 2008.
Man, this is depressing: http://itiswhatitis.weei.com/sports...e-nfl-combine-the-joke-thats-no-longer-funny/ I think we can guess who the unnamed player is.
Anyone else wanna argue it wasn't all Mangini when it came to drafting Gholston? Everyone else wanted McKelvin.
That's all she did at Ohio State. I couldn't believe the Jets organization couldn't see this when they watched her play.
This was discussed ad nauseam during the draft and prior by a bunch of analysts. Not saying the analysts are always correct but this was definitely all over the airwaves...
At the very least they should release him to get rid of his contract. I would have no problem resigning him to another deal in hopes that one day he develops into the pass rusher we drafted him to be. But ya....they 100% cant keep him at his current salary. HE IS ONE OF THE HIGHEST PAID PLAYERS ON THE TEAM AND HE DOESNT EVEN START!! The jets have been given a huge break this season in that they can dump some players that were "locked" into contracts because of the salary cap. They would be stupid not to take advantage of this opportunity.
