mmm... that goes by the name of a "Rhodes" tackle (I know I know I always pour hate on the guy but I just couldn't resist). On the Pacman topic... bring him in for a workout... then let's evaluate things...
He only started to put it together with Tennessee towards the end of his career there. He was pretty bad in Dallas. He was put behind rookies Scandrik and Jenkins, considering he was years more experience than they do how good can he be now? He was handed the #2 spot in Dallas and didn't even come close to producing at the level expected of him. I don't think he could earn a roster spot without his character concerns. If it wasn't for his 1st round pick status no one would even take a look at him.
Jones had the highest punt return average in the nfl his second year (beating even the great Devin Hestner) and was tied for first in the nfl with the most punt return tds. He also was the 6th ~ best kickoff returner in the nfl, and was a relatively good CB. Considering that the Jets are thin on draft picks, have several big needs (DE, OLB, 2 CBs, WR,Punt Returner) and are incredibly restricted with final 4 rules, the jets would be flat out stupid to not at least look into this guy. If the Jets interview/screen/meet with this guy and truly think hes gonna screw up then pass, but he could be a diamond in the rough addressing some urgent needs for our team.
Like Joey Porter, this is another signing WE SHOULD MAKE Under Rex he'll be good IMO and with him and Revis manning the corners good luck passing on that duo. and if he doesn't work out, release him. Simple as that. Bengals did it with Cedric Benson and it WORKED OUT BRILLIANTLY.
This dude has been cancer in the locker room and a dumb ass off the field everywhere he goes. The Jets seem to have a tight knit group of quality people, Pacman may fuck it all up. Plus if you can screw up in Tennessee and Dallas...no way he'd survive in NY.
Who wants to see Cotchery go another year taking a beating on punt returns ? The guy obviosly isnt a good punt returner. Hes a great receiver, and id like him to last a long time as a #2 wr in our system. So lets let Pacman Jones take all the hits on punt returns, and maybe put him as a #3 CB. If he proves himself he could potentially be a #2 CB while we groom a young guy. Eitherway bringing Pacman in for Punt Returns alone is a smart move. Its not like hes going to be a WR or even a starter that can seriously screw with chemistry.
This combined with the Final Eight rules make me a little interested in Pacman. If he's in great shape, he's an elite athlete and has the ability to be a great cornerback, and even if he's in good shape, he could be a decent depth guy and return man for us. However, I have very little confidence that he is focused enough and mature enough to play in the NFL and do everything it takes for 16 games or more. But for a cheap cornerback option, it can't hurt to take a look. Even if he is a total jackass off the field.
Can we lock this thread? I cant believe its going on for 3 pages now..... Can we talk about something else, anything else?
We have strong vets and a no bs atmosphere in our locker room.. If Jones was to have a good workout, I'd rather see him out there than drew coleman.. He needs to have that speed that made him famous, but he also needs to have grown up. He needs to live out in Long Island and stay out of the City.
Reportedly the Bengals signed Matt Jones to a 1 year deal (we should of got him) and passed on pacman. Looks like Pacman is gonna still be available. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8165d7e1&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
Pacman was awful on the cowboys and hes a huge distraction to every team hes on. He was a great special teamer but with Leon back on KR we dont really need him.
