Now I'm no fan of Saban by any means but this would sure be a deal breaker at the time Brees was a free agent. You have to give your coach the players to win and according to the info, the Dolphins didn't do that.

As a Jets fan this is great news and I'm sure glad Brees never made his way into our conference and division.

Also proves what an epic fail the Dolphins regime was at the time. No wonder they went out to get Parcells as a consultant.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

I think that Saban's exit had more to do with the fact that his team was terrible and everyone in the league hated him and was hesitant to work with him. His Nicktator act works fine in college because he knows how to win down there, but nobody in the NFL is gonna let a 6-10 coach humiliate them about stupid stuff like Little Debbie snack cakes.

I'm wondering if team doctors made him hand Wes Welker to his pal in New England?

That actually happened after Saban left for Bama, but I am sure that he made a call to Belichick and gave him some proprietary info about Welker.

And the Saints recovered the fumble. I still love reading about how pissed off Dolphins fans are 4 years after the fact. When we made that huge comeback earlier this year...boy were they pissed. Truthfully though, I don't think Brees would be the same quarterback he is today without Sean Payton as his coach. He wasn't amazing coming out of San Diego.

    Wasn't amazing?

Did you see Brees's last 2 years with San Diego? He became a top flight QB way before he made his way to New Orleans with Sean Payton.

Oh, for sure he was great in 04 and really good in 05, but he wasn't the QB is he today. I think that's a combination of his work ethic and Sean Payton. I think he would still have been good in Miami, just not the best QB in the league like he is now.

wait wait wait... now hold on one second.

they didnt clear him because of a throwing shoulder injury he had suffered the end of the year before, or so i would assume.

so if they HAD spent a shit ton of money on him even though they felt he was damaged people would have had a fucking heart attack.

the dollfags would have still sucked anyway. and saban is a douche.

Saban is full of shit. 100% He is scumbag, a complete scumbag. Too bad he scurried out of Miami like he did. They would still suck balls and this joke of a coach would be an epic fail.........

It is one thing to sell inner city players and their families bags of shit, which is Saban recruiting 101. It is a whole other ball game competing on a level playing field like in the NFL and getting bent over and fisted every sunday.

He is just another example of a good recruiter that when asked to actually coach can't. You can not recruit your way to a Super Bowl...............

Just pissed he left the Fins when he did. That franchise would have and should have several more years of pain with that asshole as head coach.

LOL I just realized how angry that sounds......awesome.

He took over a 4-12 team and got them to 9-7 the very next year with almost the same exact team. He went 6-10 the next year but that entire team was a bag of shit. Cameron took them to 1-15 the year after that. People like to point at Nick's 15-17 record with Miami as a sign of failure but before and after those seasons Miami is 5-27. And didn't Nick outcoach the recruiting powerhouses Florida and Texas enroute to a national champship? Not like those teams were playing with a bunch of bums

He sucks, he got out just as the team was going to revolt on him. He didn't have an eye for NFL talent and he knew it.

Your team was a "bag of shit" because he had no eye for talent. Look at his drafts for fuck sake.

Over a sample size of 2 years? Come on now. He drafted some busts along with pro bowlers and some solid starters. He absolutely nailed the Ronnie Brown pick, when a lot of the experts at the time were leaning Williams or Benson. Jason Allen was a bad pick, but then again, he only had 2 years, and he was working with a 4win team. Maybe he's not cut for the NFL because he runs the team like a high school team, but you can't say the guy is a product of recruiting, because like I said Miami was 5-27 before and after he got there and he beat teams at the college level with equal talent and recruiting.

Yes over a 2 year sample size. He drafted 1 pro bowler, one, uno not plural. Ronnie Brown got off to a really slow start in his career, in a position that isn't a difficult one to succeed from the get go. He is a very good player albeit injury prone. He further drafted 1 serviceable starter (Crowder), 2 fringe players and that is it in 2 years. That is just awful.

He was universally assailed for poor drafting and personel moves amongst dolfans, commentators and experts alike............

If you want to argue he was a good coach and had an eye for talent at the NFL level...... good day......good night to you sir.

What I'm saying is that it's impossible to judge whether or not he had an eye for NFL talent over a small sample size of 2 years. And let's not forget that in year 2, Saban had less picks to work with than he should have because the previous buffoons traded all the picks away. And who cares if Ronnie got off to a slow start, that proves nothing. He was absolutely the right pick where they were drafting(#2). Peyton Manning got off to a slow start in his career too, was he a bad pick?

    Pornstache 4-12
    Saban 9-7
    Saban 6-10
    Cameron 1-15

    Good night to you sir

You know something I know you want to defend the fins at all costs but don't be completely stupid about it.

First off, running backs find it infinitely easier to come into the league and succeed? No? Comparing a Quarterback to a Running back in their first year is total jackassery. Compare him to T. Jones, do not use a red herring comparing Ronnie Brown to Manning.

Second, comparing Saban to utter horseshit proves what exactly? That he smells less worse? In the end he is still shit.

It's like some idiot Jet fan posting Kotites, Al Groh and Bruce Coslet's record and comparing it to Herm Edwards. In the end they are still crappy coaches.

    GTFO with this .............

On the drafting/free agent and eye for talent thing......... we agree to disagree.

Really? If I wanted to defend the fins at all costs I'd be killing Saban like you and 99% of Fin fans do. They were all in love with Saban when he was there but when he left he became a piece of shit. I never held Saban in the savior category but at the same time I'm not going to start saying he's a piece of shit because he did win games with scraps.

Yeah I agree, but you brought up the slow start as a knock on the pick, not me. He was running behind a bad OL, splitting with Ricky later on in the year, and had a very poor passing game to clear out the box. I bet if Ricky doesn't retire Ronnie isn't even a pick, but he did and Saban got the Phins the best back of the 3.

lol, no it just proves that he's a good coach who can coach crap to somewhat respectable records. You said earlier that he's just a product of his recruiting abilities, but look who he's beating--teams who are also monster recruiters. Florida, Texas, Miss, LSU, Georgia, etc. So is it just dumb luck or what?
