The last time we picked at #29 we got a guy named Nick Mangold.

The next time we pick at #29, we could get a guy named Mike Iupati. It's a much more valuable space than most people are willing to believe, and a much better value than some other first round spots. At 29 we are likely to get a solid starter at worst, whose name is not likely to show up next to the phrase "albatross of a contract".

And the Jets picked Gholston at 6. With the valuable names being floated around here I'd consider trading the pick is all I'm saying.

I'm thinking since the Jets will not be able to sign UFA's and there is no cap, it is possible to use the no. 29 to get a big time player. In a capped season the money toward the cap itself would have me thinking nothing but keeping the pick.

Woody wants a big splash in his new stadium. Drafting a player at no. 29 may not be sexy enough to sell PSL's. You gotta take all this into consideration.

The Jets are definitely in a win now state of mind getting a huge player like Peppers would attract soo many fans and you are completely right PSL's would be booming IMO. Not to mention Jersey sales and Jets D products.

Do you really think Julius Peppers is going to sell PSL's? If it was a high profile offensive player like Brandon Marshall or DeAngelo Williams, I could see it happening. An older player like Peppers is not the wisest investment. Woody will benefit more from bringing in a solid player and keeping the team competitive for years to come than from some splashy trade that mortgages the team's future on a high-risk, low-payoff acquisition like Peppers.

In an uncapped season with few FAs available, it's much more risky to trade away the 1st for a veteran of Peppers' age than it is to hold onto the player and build with youth in the draft.

Here are the first round picks under Tanny:

    D'Brick
    Mangold
    Revis
    Keller
    Gholston
    Sanchez

So it looks like he got 5 out of 6 right. I'll trust the FO to make good at #29 instead of trade that pick + players for a guy who has maybe 3 good years left and has never played the position we'd be trading him for.

Everyone always wants to bring up Gholston like he's the only player the Jets ever drafted. This front office has done quite well drafting.

    edit:
For the hell of it, I'm listing the complete Jets drafts under Tanny. I think you'd be hard pressed to find many teams who drafted better in the last 4 years.

prefer that option myself, but I wouldn't exactly say no to peppers if he was a cheaper deal via trade... you can almost bet both guys will want the same type contract, although dumervilles may be a little more inexpensive...

+1. We also need to keep our team young and built to win for years to come. We have been trading away our picks like crazy, but always keep our first rounders. We have drafted 2 first team All Pros in Revis and Mangold in the last few seasons plus some other great players. Tanny will make the right choice

Great. Now can we see what he can do as a 3-4 pass rushing OLB? Playing from a three point stance is not the same as playing from a two point stance. Not ever player can make the transition from 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB.

I love how some people on here think Woody has limitless amounts of money, talking about front loading a contract for Peppers. Woody is already probably spending 50 mil+. Like he wants to spend another 15 mil on Peppers... elllohfuckingelll
