Jordan Shipley ......no doubt in my mind. Just like we went after Sanchez and Greene.....go get Shipley.
I don't feel that he had a great rookie season, he had more ints (22) than TD's (16). Before the season I wanted to see him finish near even in TD's to ints. He seems to throw the ball well when he bootlegs and only has to read half the field. When he's stuck reading the whole field he makes more mistakes. When the Jets were down yesterday in the fourth quarter, it still seemed like they were playing around Sanchez a bit. There was still a lot of running, even with Shonn out, and lots of short dink and dunk stuff when the game called for some deeper throws. All that said, you can never really tell from a rookie season, Sanchez can make all the throws, seems like he wants to get better (unlike Russel), and I love his attitude. He can at the very least be a serviceable QB, but he has the talent to be more than that obviously. This season didn't really convince me one way or another. The best thing I saw was he protected the ball a whole lot better towards the end and played within a run based system without bitching.
Nah, you don't look at stats with him. He was awesome in the playoffs, wasn't nervous at all, played his best game of the season in the biggest game.
He's got the ability and the talent. I think he needs a little more talent around him. LW being a check down would help immensely. Shonn going down yesterday killed us. Do I think we would have won? No. But I think it would have been a bit closer - 24-30. He's definitely greater than Flacco. I also think he's a big game kinda guy. I also think he is still gonna throw for about as many INTs as TDs. He's got that gunslinger mentality.
Sanchez was a ROOKIE QB whose best game was in the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP game, where he looked like a pro. I give him an A for his rookie year and with better coaching/playcalling, he would have been even better.
I think he got better and better through out the season. he clearly played his best game yesterday. not that i like what Braylon Edwards had to say at all, but Sanchez was playing so well yesterday i would have like to see them through the ball more. Im excited about he future and feel we got it right for once.....
First let me gladly eat crow for the thrid time, I was like those two assholes at the draft and thought the Jets were stupid for make this pick. Well after 41 years of being a so called football know it all, I got brought right down to earth with this Sanchez pick. I was totally wrong about this young man and just could not have imagine him stepping up like he has, over these last few games. This was a brillant move on the Jets part, Mark's up side is huge and he might end up being is this generations Joe Willie.. So I would give him a C+ for his Regular season work, He made many bonehead decisions that many here wondered about . An what worried most was that he was doing the same crap over and over. On to the post season and it was like two differnt players, for his play in this playoffs I would give him an A-, the young man grew the fuck up quickly and maned up when it counted the most. Over all for the season I would grade him out as a B- which is not to bad for a rookie with as little playing time as he had coming out of college. How I see the future,,,,,, When this kid has to no longer think about what he is doing and can see the defences without questioning what he is seeing and the speed of the game finally slows down....watch out poeple, the Jets are going to have one the elite QB's other teams are going to fear playing.....
He went from winning games for us while our running game was slow, to losing games for us by doing too much, to not screwing up so we could make the postseason and then winning games for us in the postseason The fact that he had 2 TD's in the AFC title game against the best team in the league in their building makes his rookie year grade out to an A. Also, if we get a couple defensive stops against Miami Jacksonville and Atlanta and our ST coverage unit showed up against Miami in the second meeting we're looking at a 13-3 year with a possible first round bye. 15 of his picks this year came in 4 games, his 7 other picks came in 15 games. And how many rookie QB's played 19 games their first year as a pro?
The way Sanchez started and finished the year, will make a lot of us forget the middle of the year which was pretty ugly at times. That was partly due to Sanchez and partly due to the Coaching Staff needing to micro-manage him a bit more. If the Jets' season ended at week 17, I think we'd be going into next year with a lot of questions. But for me at least, I have little doubt after the last 3 games that this kid has the tools and it's only a matter of time.
I wouldn't have had questions, 9-7 rookie year would've been just fine. He closed out nicely even without the playoffs, winning 5 outa 6- not too shabby. I agree though that the playoffs settled the rest of Jet nation down.
Add in the fact hes only 23 with only a year under his belt before he got here, people were saying he needed another year in college / let him ride the bench for a year.....who would have guessed? What he did in the last 3 games speaks volumes. He went through the ups and downs, wins and losses, great plays and some "wtf were thinking?" plays. Part of being a rookie, learn from your mistakes and get it out of your system now!! Up till the Falcons game I give him a C+. But the way he improved and played over the last 5 games, my grade goes up to A-. We have a keeper.
Clearly, what these last two QB classes have shown is that the league has changed in a fundamental way. The days of a rookie QB having to sit on the bench for several years with a clipboard until he's "ready" are gone for good. A byproduct of college programs playing pro systems for sure. Sanchez is a special case. He was not only a rookie, but one from SoCal that was asked to perform in an enviorment totally alien to him. He reset the bar. He was a rookie up until the Atl game. When they stopped asking too much, he started to absorb and progress. He went from turnover prone to a game manager. Next year, he'll perfect "game manager" and will evolve into a "game changer". I couldn't help but marvel at how much he looked like Dan Fouts out there w/ the beard. He should keep it. Gives him more of an authoritarian look. He'll be one of those youngins, alot like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James, that will grow up under the spotlight. To them, the "big game" will be not much different from the "regular game" in that they'll know what to do and how to handle the pressure. We saw him grow up this season. We'll see him mature next season. We'll see him kick ass along the way too. Just one man's opinion..
I was one of those people who was not sold on Sanchez coming out of USC. As a Jets fan I was so confused at to what to hope/wish for in the draft. I knew Stafford was out of our reach and out of question. I knew Sanchez only started a year at USC and was not sold on him either due to that and the talent USC has surrounding their QBs, and Freeman, while having GREAT physical size and tools, I just didn't feel like was an NFL QB. When we traded up to get Sanchez, I was worried, but figured I would let it play out and get behind him and hope he did well. I figured this was our guy for the next several years at least, got behind him, even purchased a jersey of the guy before the season started. I got worried during his slump in the middle of the season, and just hoped he would keep growing. As cliche as it sounds, I really believe we watched this kid group up before my eyes (and everyone elses eyes). It all sums up to the fact that I can NOT be more excited for next season to come and see what this kid does. With the talent we have, we could have one of the most explosive offenses in the league in a year or two and I'm glad to be along for the ride. If it's a grading scenario - among all QB's - I'd say a C+, in regards to a rookie QB and considering the 1 year of college experience he had - I'd say about a B+/A-. I love watching Sanchez and Rex interact also. The one key in all this may be that they both TRULY believe in each other.
Sanchez clearly has all the tools to be an elite Qb..I'm looking forward to seeing him progress...I love his fire and how he doesn't shy away from the big stage...his best game was probably the AFC Championship Game...pretty remarkable for a rookie QB
Colts fan here I was very impressed with Sanchez in our game. you guys have a franchise QB on your hands congrats on the great season and PLEASE beat the crap out of the Patriots!
So he needs a slot receiver? Well that would mean he doesn't have all the weapons..........lol I will reserve my answer for 3 years. I think his sophomore season is going to have a bunch of difficulties. You do not go from being a 12 td - 20 int Qb to an upper echelon guy in 1 season. If his 2010 stats are 15-20 td's and 10-15 int's I will be pleasantly surprised. That said he has without a doubt turned a corner. I hope he as a great 2010 but my expectations are significantly tempered.
