i like the way Lowery plays...But I really think Lito is getting too much heat. The guy has been solid. Yes, guys get open on him once in a while but he never gets burned. It's also important to consider that he gets picked on ALL day. One thing that has surprised me about Lito this year is the lack of interceptions. That may be telling of him being on the decline, especially considering the fact he's been picked on so much.
This. I've also heard the Lito Sheppard may play some safety in the 4-2-5 alignment. Kerry Rhodes will be the deep man, with Leonhard and Sheppard/Smith covering the middle. Lowery covering Collie, just means that Sheppard and Strickland will spend time covering Pierre Garcon and Dallas Clark.
Rex already said that he deosn't have any real "starters" in his defense, the people on the field are just based on the opponent's matchups. I like how Rex isn't scared to shake things up 18 games into the season if it gives his team a better chance to win. I think we have 3 capable #2 corners in Lito/Lowery/Strickland. And then we have 5 #1 corners in Revis.
It's important to realize Lito is NOT benched. This is clearly a matchup move and I commend Rex for making it in such a massive game So basically + 1 to the post above me
He wasn't benched...Lowery is just a better option against Collie and Sheppard matches up better with Garcon.
there ya go. Thats exactly the reason. We all saw lito get torched over and over again in week 16. Lowery will be a better option on Collie who is a better route runner, while Lito works better against Garcon who is a bit more physical. Clark is still our biggest nightmare
Rex is the best defensive mind in probably the enitre NFL and definitely all of Lucas Oil Stadium, I trust his decisions.
I agree with some of the earlier posts, Lowery is the better match-up vs Collie, he is more physical and quicker. Shepherd is still a good player, but Rex recognizes that this is a more favorable match-up for his D. That is what coaching is all about, making decisions that will give your team the best chance win the game, regardless if it rocks some boats, the benching of Rhodes is a prime example, he has been much more of a play maker since Rex set him straight. Back to the subject, Lowery has really played well this season, a good comeback from an up and down rookie year under Mangini, Rex has used his strengths well this season.
Congrats on your season so far... Now, earlier in the week, Jets fans were talking how great Lito is and how he would contain Collie and now you are saying another DB is better than Lito? If that was so, why wasn't Lowery the starter of Lito? Secondly, Lito couldn't hang with a less physical route running Colts rcvr, but now he can check a faster, stronger route running rcvr? I don't understand the logic. I think it may work better to put Lito in playing as a LB, but that would match him with Clark and that's not goo. Hopefully, Lowery isn't better than Lito, but is he is all I have to say is DAMN! I was looking for Collie to abust Lito again...
Why would you say Lowery is a better matchup for Collie? Pleas provide stats or plays that support your statement.
Did you read my question? "Please provide stats to support"... You are saying he is quicker and stronger...What did he do that supports that? If he was quicker and faster he would have started ahead of Sheppard during the season.
