coaches are always trying to impress upon the younger players how rare it is to have this opportunity in front of them.

all rex has to do is roll 'ol willie joe out there in a wheelchair to get that point across.

Ouch...that ain't right. Without Joe this team has no history.
Who would they drag out? David Norrie?

I'll be happily surprised if they go to Joe live.

That's the best part... when we win this game all the guys that have ever worn that uniform whether it was Joe Prokop or Scott Mersareu or Al Toon this is for those guys too.

Except Curtis Conway and Jonny Mitchell.... fuck those guys.

Here you go again with the Namath bashing!!! I hope you don't start with the "he was overrated" crap again, particularly since you are too young to have seen him play. I think it's time you gave that up. You LOST that argument a long time ago.

Besides, what is wrong with bringing in a little history - the only really good history and legacy the Jets have? He takes nothing away from the 2009 team. In fact, part of this run included Sanchez placing his hand on the Namath jersey on the sideline wall after the Bengal win in week 17.

And don't forget who our opponent is on Sunday - the Colts. I'm sure that is part of the reason for bringing Namath in to do the intro.

Like or not JUNC, Namath is Mr. Jet - the Jets icon - the most important player in Jets history etc. Stop being such a kill joy or you'll have a seat next to the Fat Man on FAN.

We'll take this up after the season, I did learn some new things but I cealry didn't lose. Let's save that for when this run ends. I thinkn the fact that sanchez has played 2 postseason games and has as many postseason wins as Joe says something.

I luv Joe but he questioned Rex after his statement about us being the favorite, almost mocked him. Joe, you beleive in 69 but not on 10. Go away and come back some other day.

It mostly means that more teams make the playoffs and there are twice as many playoff games in a season. In 1968 there was only the AFC Championship game and then the Super Bowl.

I think we all know Joe is prone to saying stupid s*** sometimes. But I guarantee the majority of us will always forgive him for it.

Destiny??? I'm with Junc on this one. Doesn't anyone remember Namath on at halftime of the 98 AFC title game with us up 3-0????? I bet everyone was saying "destiny" then, too. I just think, as much of a legend as Namath is and as integral as he is to our history, it's getting a bit trite for him to be routinely wheeled out in public everytime we do something positive.. And he was also not on board with Rex when Rex came out with his bold "we should be favored to win it all" proclamation. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand why they would want to make him part of it . . . I'm just saying I don't think it's anything to get particularly amped up about.

People do realize there's a difference saying you're going to win a game and saying you should be favored in the playoffs when you're a 9-7 #6 seed? The former's showing confidence, the latter just isn't factually true whether you did believe the Jets would run the table and win four in a row or not.

And why would anyone have a problem with this? It's not as if we get to the AFC Championship game every year, in fact only twice since the guarantee over 40 years ago. Might as well embrace the past, and hope this team accomplishes something that'll give us more to be proud of besides Joe Willie and the '69ers.

I don't have any problem with it, I just think it's a bit trite and hackneyed. And you're right, Rex's comment was absurd.

Joe Namath is NOT the most important player in Jets history...

he is the most important player in NFL history. Period. All of today's players owe their livelihood to Joe.

And if he played today with the changes in pass coverage rules, he would be absolutely dominant.
