Here we go!!! So its going to be a crazy week for all off us, while we anxiously await Sunday. I know for sure that I am going to be ready and pumped up for this game like I was yesterday, if possible more so. Colts fans, we encourage you to engage in discussion with us if you can do so in a respectful and non-trolling manner. With that said.... What the Colts need to do to win: 1) Keep Peyton Manning off his back - The Jets are going to blitz, blitz again, and blitz some more. If there is anything Manning is good at, its reading the blitz and delivering the perfect strike. Revis will have his hands full this week against the Wayne/Manning duo, a task that he will surely welcome. 2) Establish some sort of running game - Part of keeping Manning of his back will be relying on some sort of run game to keep the Jets defense honest. Addai and Brown will need to get some sort of yardage to keep the Colts out of 3rd and Long situations, otherwise the game could swing in the Jets favor. The Jets are very stingy on 3rd down, only allowing conversions on 32% of the time. The Colts however are very successful on 3rd, thanks in part to their Future HOF QB Peyton Manning. Something has to give.... 3) Take away the Jets run game - The Colts are very quick and undersized on defense and will be flying all over the field. The Jets have relied on a run first offense in their hot run into the playoffs, and have asked very little of Mark Sanchez. If they Colts can get up early and take away the run, putting the ball in the Rookie Sanchez's hands is the best recipe for success. It's still not a sure thing though with the way Sanchez has been throwing the ball as of late. what the Jets need to do to win, later......
What the Jets need to do: 1. Continue running up the middle. The Colts defense isn't built to defend a power running game, so we have to jam Greene and Jones down their throats. 2. Pressure. Pressure. Pressure. Covering Wayne won't do an ounce of good unless we can get to Manning and disrupt his game. The Colts have many weapons, and we won't win if we don't continue our blitzing ways.
I posted this in another thread and I'll say it again, our run game needs to get a little crazy and run more delayed hand offs, counters, pitches, bootlegs and play actions, this defense is fast and I think they are going to bite hard on bootlegs, play actions and counter runs. If we had a true slot receiver we could pick this defense apart, counters IMO will be extremely effective, and we have to lay off the wildcat with these guys. EDIT: I agree with Tommy, running it up the middle will be crucial for wearing down this D, and it will open up situations for a few nice outside runs and pitches, I also think this game is where Sanchez needs to make plays, he is going to need to go deep more then before, he needs to step up to the occasion!
Colts will win if they protect Peyton and if the recievers get open, no penalties or turnovers. Basically just do what they do. The Jets will win with 6-8 minute drives for touchdowns, field goals will not do it against the Colts. They also need to establish the run. Don't give up on it early even though chances are the Colts will jump up and get a 10-14 point lead early. Don't pressure Peyton, sack him. Blitzing won't work unless you actually sack him.
Colts were 24th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game, so we gotta keep running the crap out of the ball. Keep drives long in order to keep Peyton off the field for as long as possible.
the Jets need the refs to call the game fairly...and not wipe Peyton Manning's ass with their yellow flags.
key is the line of scrimmage (isnt it always?) but no really....the colts defense sucks during the regular season always and then they turn it up a huge notch in the playoffs (every year). we can't let that defense force 3 and out's like san diego. if bethea is out, that is a big component of their secondary and even their tackling also if we can collapse the colts pocket, manning will have to rush his throws more. he threw some pretty bad picks against baltimore so you know he's still human
We didn't tackle well at all against the Colts, which was a big reason why they were able to pick up some first downs. We didn't miss anyone against San Diego. The Colts will be a slightly taller task (har har).
No, no, no. No plays that take too long develop against that defense. Part of what got us into trouble early last time was this sudden decision to start trying to run outside. You're not going to beat this team to the edge, and they play smart football to counter their lack of size. This is the perfect time to stick to our gameplan, not to mix it up.
Exactly. Get up field as fast as possible. They're a fast defense. They're not a mauling defense. Just line up and punch them in the mouths over and over again until they wear down. Hopefully, the passing game can get going sooner rather than later, so we can actually score a little in the first half, too.
I honestly think you have to put at least 28+ on the Colts to win, and somehow make sure Peyton doesn't have the ball with more than a minute left.
So I was looking at the team stats from the reg season and noticed Indy has the 24th ranked run defense. That works in our favour. If we can run the ball we have a shot in this game.... I think our defense will be able to keep Manning in check for the most part, but you know the motherfucker will get his TDs and we're going to need our offense to respond.
I agree...however, I think the wildcat could be effective, provided we soften them up by THROWING out of that formation the first time we run it. If we can get a completion (even if it's only for 10 yds or so) it will put their speedy defense on their heels and prevent them from pinning their ears back on subsequent wildcat and/or counter runs.
Yes. That crowd/team will be fired up at the beginning of the game. Sanchez needed time to settle into the game (looked excited/nervous at 1st) Put your best unit on the field and hope to stop them on their 1st posession to set the tone for the game! :manning:
Jets will need to run the clock out if they have a lead and ball with about 8 minutes to go. You can't let Peyton have the ball with the game on the line we have all seen that movie to many times.
