I couldn't wait for the NFL Network to show the abridged version of our game today, so I zipped through it on the TiVo. A few things came to mind as I got excited all over again. We stayed with our strength, our run game, even though we were not racking up much yardage, first downs or lighting up the scoreboard. We were behind for over three quarters, yet they didn't panic. The field goal at 4:15 into the 3rd qtr. were our first points in the game. That showed confidence on both sides of the ball. And then on 3rd and goal from the 2 yrd. line we were able roll out Sanchez and score a passing td to the tight end. Watching it again, it had all the makings of a busted play, but Sanchez kept his cool and found a well covered Keller. I don't even want to think about what we would have done had we faced 4th & goal and down 4 points. The Greene td was a thing of beauty. He bowled over Eric Weddle and out ran 4 defenders. That cheap shoulder check that Cromartie threw at him in the endzone will not be forgotten by me...and neither will Greene's "tribute" to LT. Even though SD only scored 7 by the half, it looked like the Jets changed up the coverage in the 2nd half. It looked like they got out of zone and went to more man. That tells me that the coaches are not only flexible enough to make adjustments like that, but prescient enough to realize the need. I'm pretty sure that most teams would have been more than happy to just give up just 7 pts. to a team like the Chargers and stuck with what they were doing. I have a lot more confidence in the game time coaching than I did earlier this year. Even that challenge that we lost was a good decision. I was glad our time out usage didn't come back to bite us in the ass. I thought that the Atlanta game four weeks ago was the low point of a promising season...and maybe it was. But it may have been the best thing to happen to this team. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Jets seem to have not only figured out what they are, but fully embraced it. Now for the not so good. The special teams need to get their act together. That squib kick after we went up by 10 was retarded. The Chargers got the ball at their 45. Thankfully they missed a 40 yard FG. And that punt that was nearly blocked on our next drive could have been a disaster. We had already gone into a soft prevent and the game was well within their reach. I can see us getting hurt by our kicking game in our next two games. p.s. Right before the kick-off, I realized I wasn't wearing any Jets gear... I panicked and grabbed a retro Jets cap that looks goofy on me. Now I have to wear it next week.
What really impressed me on the TD pass was how Greene stuck with his block and allowed Sanchez to move up and find Keller, without Greene's block he has to throw it away
I'm surprised more wasn't made of this part of the play. Greene did a hell of job and gave Sanchez time and room to make that throw. When they picked up Greene in the draft, i was kinda like...huh?? What this kid has done in the last few weeks is unreal.
They didn't give up any really big plays in the zone. It's pretty much impossible to stop Antonio Gates up the middle if you're gonna play zone and the V-Jax sideline catch was undefendable.
Not sure they actually said that we stink at it, but in that SNY interview after the game, Revis and Rhodes did say that they decided to do man-to-man instead of zone at the end. I do think it made a difference.
We really only clamped down when we went back to man to man, that was Rex's main adjustment in the 2nd half
I think they lose the zone coverage for next week, we only needed it due to the fact that they had so many weapons and we needed to close up the middle...back to our defensive bread and butter
Ok stink might have been too strong but it was a world of difference looking at the coverage from the 1st half and the 2nd half
 So true. I noticed it live and it was a tremendous effort by Greene. No Greene block . . . no TD . . .
