From Rotoworld: Michael Vick-QB- Eagles Jan. 15 - 8:50 am et Beat writer Jim Thomas expects the Rams' brass to discuss the possibility of signing or trading for Michael Vick in next week's organizational meetings. GM Billy Devaney worked with Vick in Atlanta and even visited him in prison. Coach Steve Spagnuolo and OC Pat Shurmur are tight with Eagles coach Andy Reid, who has spoken in glowing terms about the "changes" Vick has made in his life. The Rams desperately need a QB, and Vick would be a good fit in the Edward Jones Dome. Using a late round pick to reel in a QB would allow the Rams to select Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh with the No. 1 pick. I would! 6 reasons: 1. Vick has now been back for one season in the NFL so he should be back into shape. It's now or never for him so he'll be motivated. 2. How much leverage does he have contract wise? Sure he may not pan out but it's not like you are taking a 10 mill $ risk a season... how much money would you be risking on a rookie QB taken 1st overall? about 70 mill $ and that's A LOT! Much better to go with Suh who'll ask for less money and is more of a sure thing. 3. in 2011 there will be a rookie salary cap so if Vick doesn't pan out you can get a QB in that draft and since the cap will be in place you'll risk a lot less money. 4. Spags is a D minded coach like our own and he likes the run game... having Jackson and Vick in the backfield is like (scheme-wise, not quality-wise) the Young/Johnson tandem in Tennesse... it can work! 5. St. Louis OC is Shurmur who's worked many years under Reid in Philly as a QB coach. I guess the system ought to be very similar to the one he's learned this off-season. 6. Come on... you may like him or not as a person but Vick is a show to watch when he plays... and St. Louis needs people back in the stands! For all the above reasons I'd make a move for Vick if I were the Rams. Other teams I don't know... but for the Rams it's a perfect scenario.
Well..the Rams need a QB....it's gotta be their top priority going into the offseason. However...if they end up making a play for Vick or any other potential starting QB...i'm sure they're going to select Suh 1st overall as a result of it. nice strategy.
I would definitely do that, you can get Vick and Suh with ur 1st and 4th round picks. That'd instantly sell seats and probably make them a hell of a lot better.
I agree. He's fun to watch. I think as long as they don't try to make him a pocket passer (which was a dumb idea to start with) they'll get value.
The Rams are taking Suh in the draft regardless, so signing Vick won't influence that at all. it's just a matter of where they get their QB after that.
Trade for Vick lets you take Suh with second guessing. Thats a huge win win for the Rams front office.
He's a great player to have right now. He's not going to be their future QB but someone who could take the position for 2 to 3 years and can win them games while the rest of the team gets better. I think it would be a great move for the Rams.
no it doesn't. if they are seriously considering using the number one on a QB then they are inherently convinced that such QB is worth building a franchise around and wouldn't pass him up for Vick. if there isn't a QB worth taking at number one, having Vick wouldn't alter any flexibility with the number 1.
Great for the Rams.Crap for Philly. Vick is worth no less than a 2.(And possibly a 4th as well) Suh at 1, Vick at 2...wins the draft
I would look into what it would take to acquire Mcnabb first... He is an actual QB, unlike Vick, and he is experienced enough to help a young squad, and overall he is getting up their to the point they could draft their franchise QB in the next draft or two and he will be able to groom the young guy..... and they can still take Suh #1
That would be fantastic for the Rams, and I'm sure Stephen Jackson would benefit greatly from the spread out defenses.
Just because Eagles fans all want McNabb gone doesn't mean that the Eagles do. He's still one of the better QBs in football, no way Philly gets rid of him while they still have a competitive team on the field. For whatever problems McNabb has, he's still light years ahead of Vick or Kolb.
