All the stories talk about how the Chargers run D has improved yet they fail to look beyond the YPG stat they see. If they look deep they see that the Chargers are actually worse against the run over the past 10 week, but teams just can't exploit it. I love how even Ron Rivera says their Run D has improved. Like by their D coordinator ignoring the facts it makes them less of an issue. From King: Strange thing: The Chargers allowed 4.3 per rush in the first six weeks, and 4.6 in the last 10 weeks -- but teams stopped trying to run on them as much. No team in the first six weeks ran fewer than 30 times a game on the Chargers. No team in the last 10 weeks ran more than 30 times a game. It was a function for the Chargers of getting ahead of teams, often, and keeping the foot on the gas, and teams trying to throw to catch up in San Diego's 11-game winning streak. exactly...he's 100% correct. If Tennessee had stuck with the run they would have avoided a blowout and perhaps even won the game. Instead, early in the game, even though they had the run working, they start going shotgun formation with Vince Young, and he completely shit the bed with turnovers. Why Fisher decided to play this way I don't know, but it sure as shit won;t be what the Jets do.
I wouldn't be upset at all with a nice play-action pass to start the game. Go into a heavy set with one receiver wide. If he's in a one-on-one man situation, why not try and exploit it?
Triple Reverse, Flea Flicker from the Swinging Gate formation. Have BE run stride for stride with DC so they can lateral it to eachother until they score. Nobody is expecting it, so it has to work.
If you really think about it... the teams the Chargers have played had to stop running because they were behind in the score. You can't run the ball the entire game and expect to win vs. the high scoring Chargers offense.
I sometimes wonder why we don't use Ropati Pitoitua as a WR, he is 6'8. He could easily overpower Revis in the first 5 yards, and then go and outjump him. Quentin Jammer hasn't faced a receiver like Pitoitua ALL YEAR, even Rod Woodson said so.
