This is pretty much what I was alluding to earlier in the year. I think if (and that's a big IF) some team out there is willing to part ways with a 1st round pick for Edwards, it would be tough to pass that deal up. Personally, I would take the pick and use it to move down and recoup some more Draft picks in a deep-talented Draft class. I know a lot of people won't be happy with it, but, I've said it before and I'll say it again...this is what Braylon Edwards was...is...and will be. He's not a rookie or a 2nd or 3rd year man. He'll be going into his 6th season and he's still dropping passes like he was a rookie.
You must be insane. Do people even do any research before posting a thread here? Braylon would be a restricted Free Agent. You want to cut ties with him and gain nothing back? How smart, when u can actually get up to a 1st and a 3rd for an RFA. Atleast do a little research (in this case, you should have known better about a Jet player). And there were 50 threads talking about the same thing over and over again, so you could have been courteous enough and made a better thread title. As for your question, we will not let Edwards go. He is a genuine deep threat and will remain a Jet for atleast another yr unless someone pays big for him. The fact that he is a WR and can get open deep more often than not is enough to keep him here. He has dropped a few big plays but its a matter concentration, not talent. He will get there just like TO was up there.
Exactly. Not only does he affect the passing game, he also affects the run game with his deep threat...even his blocking. He is an excellent blocker as a WR.
No, they would be wearing that ugly blue and rooting against the Jets this weekend. Gotta maintain their classless status.
This. There were a couple of press releases throughout the year were Rex was praising his blocking abilities. If he blocks more than he catches and opens up the run game even more - he's worth keeping around for that fact alone - even if he doesn't catch another pass. Braylon = Run Blocking > catches
True. He drops the catches when he is wide open, not in traffic. And to me is simply concentration which will come. Im not worried about the drops one bit. He will break out sooner than later.
Definitely not for big money but I'm feeling he will stay seeing what's happening in The Meadowlands. Jets are on the rise. It's funny how some people get on this guy being what he's been through. Hold out (his own fault)/ staph infection, Knee injury, that all in his first season. Comes back after rehab puts in two solid seasons and gets to the pro bowl with 80 catches for 1,289 yds with one QB under center mind you. The QB controversy between Anderson & Quinn only hurt him. I think with Sanchez and Shotty all together will bring him back to where he was a few short years ago. Starting Mark Sanchez at the start of the season might prove productful in more ways than just his development.
A good point that has been made a few times..he has followed up a big drop with a big play later in games... That rediculous drop against Buffalo was followed by a tough over the middle td that most receivers would not have been able to complete...Last week's drop was followed by a great over the middle slant that converted a 3rd down...he has value and needs to be on the team...he also needs to catch one of those long td's in SD this wknd
We absolutely have to keep Edwards next year. The only acceptable reason for not keeping him is if we go out and get Brandon Marshall. But I think Braylon is a cheaper option and has nearly a full season working with Sanchez and I do not believe he brings any issues to the locker room.
I'd like to cut ties with him but only if a better option becomes available to us. The guy is important to us in the fact that defenses still have to account for him but he doesn't instill any confidence in me whatsoever. If i needed to make a play in a must win situation i'd go to Keller and Cotch before i threw it his way, for sure.
Slap the highest RFA tender on him and if someone is willing to give us a 1st and a 3rd, let him walk. It would have cost us more than a 3rd, a 5th, Stuckey and Trusnik to move up to both those spots in the draft, I'd consider it a net win. If any team offers anything less: fuck 'em, Edwards says in green and white. San Diego delenda est.
Just like how someone mentioned earlier, he'll catch it in clutch situation, like the 3rd down slant last wk. He'll catch it with his helmet (Tyree?) if he has to, but he'll catch it.
I think it's also a matter of the difficulty of the catch. If it's an extremely difficult, but possible catch he seems to come up with it more often than not. When it's a really easy and not a difficult situation, he seems to lose concentration and drop it. He probably thinks about it too much too. I love what Rex said to him this week. He told him next time he's wide open for an easy catch to just grab it with one hand. Edwards gave him a look like he was crazy. But that does 2 things. 1, if Edwards actually does it he will probably catch it because he'll need to concentrate more on just catching it. 2, it shows that Rex has all the confidence in the world in him, which he may lack in his own ability to catch at times.
Edwards gets probation, $1,000 fine http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playo...ss&source=twitter&ex_cid=Twitter_espn_4819097
Yes we should, just like everyone else said, we don't give up what we did for 12 regular season games and playoffs. (unless we win the Super Bowl then I could give a shit) There is a huge upside to Braylon, the running game was instantly better and his ability to draw coverage will not go away. It's pretty obvious that we would keep him-
While that's sounds as messed up as any advice I've encountered it just may be genius. Absolute genius.
