Edwards' dropping problem won't be fixed by drilling catching over and over, it's in his head. Some awful free throw shooters drain 95% in practice but 60% in games, just like free throw shooting, it's more mental then physical for Braylon.
I hate to admit to this... I am just like, or was just like Edwards in HS baseball. The easy high flies were always an adventure. Too much time to think. Too much time too think about screwing up. Too much time to panic. Impossible plays? I was awesome. The tougher the catch, the better I was. No time to think, just run and react. Remember Knoblock (sp?) Guy could not make a routine throw. Too much time to think about screwing it up. This is the problem Edwards has, and I think Keller has a bit of the disease too. Drops are the result of a loss of concentration, whatever the reason. Fear of failing, fear of getting hit, whatever. Another name for it is choking. It;s about pressure, mental pressure.
I'd say it's mental. its like his body freezes up when he's going for a big catch. Same as golfers get when they putt....the yips. Can be cured with psychological counseling. If i were the Jets I would pay for the best counselor in the world in the offseason and see what happens. Don't give up on this guy. He's a talent.
maybe he has a problem with his eyes. he only drops the ones that get close to his body. if his arms are extended he catches it.
Hire whoever got Tiki Barber to stop fumbling to teach Braylon how to catch....Barber wasn't even a young RB, he was a veteran. I didn't think a guy at 30 could stop that problem but he did and finished his career with 3 great fumble-free years.
I actually think he has been better this season though... According to the graphic he has only dropped 6 passes this year as opposed to 13 and 14 the previous two years.
I don't get how Braylon dropping passes makes him an asshole ? Am I missing something here ? :breakdance:
Perfect description about what happens to this guy. If he's not already doing it, he needs to start seeing a sports psychologist. Tons of glofers with putting issues (same sort of problem) have been helped by therapists.
Braylon is like that WR in the movie Necessary Roughness. Outruns everyone, but can't catch anything. All kidding aside, he seems to mainly fail on the bombs, but has shown that he can catch some difficult passes also. So unpredictable. I agree, its in his head. Otherwise he wouldn't make some of these great catches. Maybe we should stick to some of the mid-range routes with him. He seems to do worse the longer the ball is in the air.
