    He's an elite kick returner.

    Kick returner.

His best years are behind him. He will only decline from here due to age as well as wear and tear. Somebody suggested we give him Hester money. How did that work out for Chicago, again?

Cribbs is not a good WR. Although he won games for us, that method of victory is not realistic long term. You won't be a playoff team like that.

He deserves more money, but not something stupid. Cribbs got lowballed because that's how negotiations go at first - lots of stupid pissing around at the bottom and then to the top. I am sure Cleveland will offer him more money, and probably something more reasonable. The question is if Cribbs is expecting something outrageous.

Really, he has no wiggle room in this matter. We've got him under contract for three more years. He can either play with us or retire like Barry Sanders. Cleveland holds ALL the cards.

The Wildcat is going to be as common in the NFL as the shotgun in about two years. Cribbs is going to get a shitload of yards and a few scores for some team in the NFL. Right now Cribbs is the best QB on the roster for the Browns. Some team is probably going to pick up Cribbs this offseason and make the Browns look like fools. Cribbs is not going to sign for $1.4million.

Josh Cribbs is the best QB on the roster for the Browns? As bad as Derek or Quinn are, if Cribbs tosses a pass he tends to fumble or get picked off. He virtually always runs out of the Wildcat. He's a glorified change of pace back. He's very good at what he does, but he isn't worth big, big money.

And I'm not sure as to the long term viability of the Wildcat. If it was so great, why are the Dolphins running away from it since the emergence of Henne? I think it's a useful crutch, if you will, to help teams with bad passing games make up for the gap. The problem with it is that it pulls the QB out of a rhythm. It has it's place and time, but I can't see it having a significant impact long term.

But either way, Cribbs is not a FA or a RFA. He's not going to have to "sign" anything to be under our control. He has 3 years on his contract. He has no real say in what happens to him - he signed a six year contract with the money upfront. He got it, now he wants more since he's in the second half.

Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, I just don't want to see Cleveland do something stupid and piss away a ton of useful cap space. I think something like $2.5 or $3 million would be fair.

Sounds pretty similar to Anderson and Quinn

Ronnie Brown was the wildcat QB until he was injured. The Wildcat was still heavily included in their packages even after Henne took over Pennington's "between wildcat plays" QB role.

He's the most dynamic player on the Brown's roster. He can force a trade if he wants to.

That's the number I was thinking. He's not worth Hester's contract - Hell, Hester isn't worth that contract - but $1.4 is a slap in the face.

Quinn/Anderson generally get 60 yards per game in games we actually win. As horribly depressing as that it is, it is still better than Cribbs who generally generates zero yards per game if allowed to pass.
    That's a good point, I'll concede that.
Ehhh. Anquan Boldin couldn't do it, and Boldin is a lot more valuable than Cribbs. I have a hard time seeing someone offering something worth to Cleveland what Cribbs is.
Yeah, Hester's contract has like $15 million guaranteed. There's no way we do that.

$1.4 is double his old contract. I don't think it's a "slap in the face," but I think it's just a starting point. There is no way he's going to accept that. I think the Browns are just trying to tell Josh quickly there is no way in Hell he gets Hester money.

I have faith that eventually in the end, Cribbs will get $2.5 to $3 million, maybe a bit more than that.

What I really don't like in this scenario is Cribbs going out to the media and making a big deal out of it, saying he's cleaning out his locker and not going to be a Brown next year, as if he really had any leverage in this deal. His comments are unsettling. It's Jan. 6th, Holmgren has been in the office two days. Really? This quick to whine?

    Cribbs Running>Quin/Anderson Passing
Why Bolden couldn't do it:Larry Fitzgerald. Mohamed Massaquoi isn't enough to make up for the loss of Cribbs. Especially when they have no one to throw him the ball.
He's been getting this shit from two GMs now. I'd be pissed. If you were getting the same shit from two bosses, you'd be pissed.

Yeah, but that hardly makes him our best QB.

    Eh. Semantics.
Cribbs really isn't making very much money. If Cleveland calls his bluff and tells him that he can just stay home and watch TV for nothing, can Cribbs really personally and financially live with the ramifications of that decision?

What do you think Cribbs is worth, draft pick wise? I can't see a trade for Cribbs being worthwhile for Cleveland.
Yeah, but keeping composure anyway is important. Sometimes life just fucks you over. Cribbs has been screwed over, but throwing a hissyfit won't do you any favors.

I don't think Cribbs is going to make a huge difference in any role other than what he does now. He does deserve more money, but not a huge contract. Some team out there will be foolish enough to pay it though. I just hope it isn't the Jets. He's one hell of a kick returner though.

    Yup.
This is another case of a player not wanting to play for the contract they were GRATEFUL to get just a couple years ago...

Cleveland loves thier team. Its a shame that thier fan base has had to put up with such shit for so long.

As for Cribbs, he's fucked and I don't really feel sorry for him. He signed the original deal and now he has little room to get a new one.
