We found a niche for B. Smith and now it needs to be exploited. We all bitched about Miami running the wildcat because it's all they ran. Most of us agree that is not the way football is played. However, by us running the seminole at strategic times and not 75% of plays or more, we're taking advantage of one of our strengths and keeping the opposing defense on their heels.
Truth be told, Smith is still just an Avg. WR. but He is a Dynamic Player. I just remember a day when we were all pissed off because the only play he ever ran was a straight Run from the Wildcat or an End around... KO returns, Full Options, Running, Pitching....good to see. And all the while he is still an Excellent Gunner on ST! Ironically, I want us to line him up @ WR more often since he now has a Bullseye. He could be the biggest distraction on the field without even catching a pass!
It was only the seminole when Washington was involved..now it's the Summit package based on what they do at Summit high school in NJ. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/12/ny_jets_taking_wildcat_plays_r.html
Props to you guys who are owning up to writing off Smith in the past. I'm wrong a lot (I think 2 weeks ago I was ripping Lito and he's actually played well), but me and WSW have been advocating Smith for a while now. The problem was, everyone thought he was a waste because he wasn't producing the way a WR should; but the guy isn't a true WR. He has mediocre hands and route-running skills, but if you design the proper plays for him (e.g. simple routes, bubble screens, Wildcat, etc) and get him the ball in space, he's very dangerous. I'm glad his talent and skillset is FINALLY being maximized.

I didn't want Smith off the team, but I didn't want to see him on the field unless it was on Special Teams, so I have to own up too. Kind of how I feel about W Wright, although I think Wright is marginally a better WR than Smith. Every team needs ST's aces, and I never thought Smith would amount to much more than that. He would show flashes at TC, then look awful. Um... did a lot of people complain about the Miami wildcat here? I didn't. I don't care how you score, whatever the formation, if you can put points on the board, it isn't a gimmick. It means the CS created mismatches. It's just good coaching. That will never be a gimmick. Now, a triple reverse... there is a gimmick, because it never works.
I generally feel the same way. The wildcat is one of those annoying formations that is a fad and can be stopped after video tape.
