I heard that whole thing went under, it's never going to open. It will continue to serve as a humungous eyesore.
The views from the new stadium is gonna suck balls, that's for sure, but I totally agree with this. Last night I made the trek to my usual Gate A. I got to the Gate @ 8:05 and of course, the lines there weren't moving at all, which was out of the ordinary. The line was moving a foot maybe every 5 mins. Make a long story short, I had to walk all the way to Gate D. While waiting on THAT line I heard the crowd go nuts after TJ scored. By the time I got my ass to my seat, there were 9 minutes left of the 1st quarter. It was just fucking terrible.
It's the dumbest/ugliest thing on the east Coast. Basically, it's a monument to how dysfunctional the state of NJ is, both financially and politically.
Imagine this scenario. You are a land owner who lived in the neighborhood for a long time and care about your neighborhood. You had constructors built a great house in your neighborhood and rent it out to a local business 20+ years ago. In order to finance this house, you took typical 30 year mortgage. You get 25K annual revenue on this house from the aforementioned business that leases. Your house, while older, is in great shape, and you are close to paying this off. Now, this business owner tells you that he wants to build another house on your property that will generate him a lot more money. This also means that the people in your neighborhood that you care about will be paying much more for the same services provided by the business. The new house will not be about to serve more of the residents at the same time or serve them any better. Your existing house would be demolished, yet you will continue paying mortgage for it as before until it is payed off completely (you still owe about 100K on it). In addition, you will get second mortgage for 500K to spend on infrastructure, pavements, sewer, road modifications to better get to new house, and other costs for new house. In addition, you will give your tenant even more land to use as they please. And after all this, instead of 25K that you get to day, you will get 6K. Sounds like a win-win-win for you, community members, and the tenant?
You think new stadium is never going to have delays? I hope you are right, but :shit: Why not spend reasonable amount to improve the existing stadium? Why take up on this huge initiative that will cost every fan a lot more, will give them inferior views, screw the taxpayers big time, and not even make improvements that make sense, like a roof? I think you know the answer. The only question remains is how much Woody and Giants paid Codey to agree to this.
Sounds like you are more upset about being priced out of the new stadium than having to ACTUALLY pay higher taxes for it. Xanadu is a much bigger debacle and tax burden on the state than the new stadium project. Xanadu actually degraded the area both logistically and aesthetically. YOUR POLITICIANS are to blame for any deals done in this state that you the taxpayer does not approve of. So don't blame the jets for wanting a new home, they tried in Manhattan and were run off by the Dolan's and Sheldon Silver. In fact, the Giants and Jets owning this together made sense and reduced the tax burden on residents of NJ. If the jets went back to NY the Giants would require a much bigger tax referendum from the people of the state, so at least see that as a blessing in disguise. I'm from LI so I hate the entire scenario of the Jets playing in that crudhole state.
I like the fact that he thinks road improvements and a rail link were not necessary for the area. of course they were. The area was an embarrassment to get in and out of for years. Another real estate analogy. When you own a home do you let it sit and rot or do you invest more money into it to improve it's value? The same for the surrounding neighborhood. Your home value is based on the quality of schools, roads, access to reliable public transport, and quality of life in the community..low crime etc. If proper investments are not made in the aforementioned categories guess what happens to your home value?
Do you know how much Giants stadium cost to build back in 1976? 78 million. You honestly think that now minuscule amount has not been paid off?
I'm not saying that. But it was a problem for the last game. That's why I said there was an unusual delay at Gate A. I was all for having the Giants leaving us their old stadium and upgrading a lot of things, but we apparently have no control of what the Giants do. They would've built that Stadium next door anyway cause they would have to go somewhere.
I know they have 100 mil debt left on this. By the way, read this article to get some perspective, including 100 mil: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/11/sports/football/11taxes.html?_r=1
You do realize that 500 million is a drop in the bucket for the state to make major upgrades and improvements to the area? Like I said before, you should be MUCH more upset about Xanadu which has not and never will return $1 of revenue to the state. But you are a football fan so who is upset about PSL's. ticket prices and sightlines so this is all you care to focus on.
My wife saw the blimp shot of the new stadium, thought it was the current stadium and said it doesn't look like too many people are at the game.
I am not sure how Xanadu failure is related to this or why we are even talking about it on Jets forum. New stadium though is related to Jets. And 600 mil is not drop in the bucket for a project that brings in 6 mil a year to the state. Actually down from 25+ mil that Giants stadium used to bring, while we as fans are going to end up paying more for inferior seating, parking, restricted tailgating, etc... This quit simply stinks for fans and taxpayers. Yet some, like yourself, don't seem to understand the actual implications of this project.
Who are you to say the seating is inferior or the tailgating is restricted when the stadium has not even been opened yet? Seems to me you're passing judgement way too prematurely. Coming from a NY fans perspective getting in and out of Giants stadium has always been a quite unpleasant experience, but once they put Xanadu there, it got 100x worse, so it IS a huge issue related to the Jets and Giants, and will continue to affect the experience we have at the new stadium for years to come.
When I looked at the blimp shot, I though how is it possible that new great 80,000 seat stadium without a roof was built when when old great 80,000 seat stadium without a roof right next to it is already in place and is only 30 years old. What a waste.
