This year: 1'402 yds and 14 TD on 331 carries... most yards and most carries in his career! (TOP 5 IN THE NFL) All of three years he's been on this team he's rushed for more than 1'100 yds and a total of 28 TDs. He is undoubtedly a leader in the O and with a rookie QB you need a charismatic and reliable RB. He never fumbles... NEVER! Next year 90% there will be no cap so keeping him and his big contract doesn't mean we can't re-sign someone. Let's also not forget we'll either get Leon back form a big injury or some unproven guy in his place... couple that with Greene (love the guy but he's not a security blanket yet). One more thing you guys may not agree with: keeping him sends a message. This guy played on his 900k contract knowing he was almost sure to get cut in 2010. Instead he proved he still is a great player and he gets recognition for that by not getting his contract fiddled with. With the Leon situation and some contract renewals coming up saying "stick to the team and we'll give you the money" is a good move.
i like thomas but i'd like to see shonn get more carries if he can hold onto the ball next year. more explosiveness and more ability to move people.
Straight up I think Jones should be brought back. We all hated on him thinking he'd decline but he actually had his BEST season yet.... However, Shonn Greene looks killer and Leon will be back so....
i say thomas comes back and he and shonn see a similar amount of carries. that all changes if leon is back to himself.
there was always the speculation he'd be cut after this year, but i suppose that won't happen anymore.
He's got one year left on his contract on a most likely uncapped year. It's a no brainer IMO. No need to extend his contract
I'm 50/50 on TJ. He's quite reliable with his ball protection.....but he isn't explosive and still goes down after first contact a little too much for my liking. Plus, he'll be a year older next season. A lot of his success is due to the stellar run-blocking by our oline as well.
Yeah but his cap hit is huge. Something like $6 mill; with younger talent already there, it'd be understandible if they cut him.
I think we could actually pull off the "Thunder and Lightning" thing the Giants tried with Dayne and Barber. Jones and Greene, behind this OLine? All we need is one additional WR threat to make this happen.
I think at the beginning of the season TJ and Greene get 80% of snaps and Leon is brought in on 3rd downs situations... Then if Leon gets back to his old self he'll start to be use more in place of TJ. But I can still see us needing all 3 of them.
TJones > SGreen...when it comes to ball security. Green needs to work on that....then I'll feel better about cutting Jones outright.
One thing that S.Green has over TJones....is that he runs over people. He blew up that Bengals safety in the first half....it was very Adrian Peterson like.
true, when you preach a control offense you better practice it. i would like to see greene work on that and get some carries next year.
