I dont regularly tape Jets games, but today I was cleaing out a drawer and stumbled onto a tape. Week 4. Jets are 1-2(not awful). Chad Pennington is already out for the season. Jay Fiedler is already out for the season. First play of the game, John Abraham strips the ball from Anthony Wright, takes it back for a touchdown... and the play is called back due to 'offsetting fouls', the cause of which I couldnt figure out.(Translation, the refs didnt feel like having a defensive touchdown just yet, so they called it back). Talk about a nightmare. Encapsulated the whole season in my mind... things get worse and worse and worse, and when it seems like something good happened, it turns into yet another kick to the balls.
Chrebet making his final catch ... the camera had a closeup on his eyes all bugged out. I nearly cried.
We were certainly treated harshly by the officials last season......let's hope next season is better.
Actually, what I remember is the Buffalo game. I'm not sure if they showed it on TV but Chrebet was on the sidelines and they put him up on the JumboTron. The stadium went crazy and gave him a standing ovation. You could see him mouthing "Thank You" to the crowd with a tear coming down his face, he knew it was the end. That is the Chrebet moment I'll remember from last year...
I was at that damn Baltimore game. If we had gotten that TD to start the game it might have been over right then and there. I can't believe it was called back. What I will remember from 05 most of all is Herman Edwards and the lying he did. "You play to win the game". I can't believe he actually said that at one point because this man played not to lose all year long.
Justin Miller fumbling nearly ever punt he fielded yet still being put back there to return. Vinny's glorious comeback from retirement - putting up a "W" in his first game. Brooks Bollingers patentend redzone throw a jump ball in the corner or don't throw at all.
The only memory I want to keep from '05 is Ty Law picking off Brady and running it back for the score. I was on my feet screaming my ass off on that play!!
Vinnie leading the team off the field with his helmet held high after the Tampa game was one of my great Jets memories ever. We were still alive in the season at the time and it was my one home game per year (I'm out of town).
The whole 2005 season was blur and soon as we lost our starting and backup QB's for the season. My mind is too cloudy to remember it all I think I was at the 2006 draft already.
that game was full of dissapointment when we were down 6-0 and hobson returned it all the way to the 2...i was joking on the runback saying that if hobson didnt get in we would settle for the fg and lose the game... 2 frickin yards away! would have been up 7-6! who settles for that fg with our offense...terrible really dissapointing game
It was a blur man. Every week right before a new game I kept saying. Ok, bout time. I want to watch a Jets game.
i think the promising part of last year were brooks and cedric. they were picking it up a little late in the season and i hope they improve more this year.
Do you think the Hall of Fame asked to put in its archive Herm's "How the Jets Win" check list flaunted in front of the media after the KC loss?
Honestly, my best memory of the season was Pennington's touchdown drive in the Vikings preseason game. Not much else good. Tampa Bay game was pretty good, but it's not like Vinny played so well that it gave us hope to turn things around. Probably my best 2 regular season memories were the Jaguars and Chargers games because they were exciting and we almost won. Pretty sad. I doubt we'll do much better this year in wins and losses, but at least this year we'll be rebuilding, instead of just having some scrubs playing out the season
