Problem is we've been running alot on 1st and 2nd downs , when that gets stuffed - guess what - 3rd and longs . For all those wanting to run/run/run this is a potential issue when D's are stacking the box.
Actually, double reverses are often most effective against fast/heavy pursuit teams. Colts did a good job on the one the Jets ran and as others have said Clowney needs to read the end is covered and cut it off to minimize the loss.
Any professional Offensive Coordinator responsible for last season's game in Seattle should die of embarassment. And then get fired.
To be honest I think Dbrick just brain farted on the first Freeny play . The 2nd I'd have to watch again as I don't recall what the issue was there . Blaming anything on Shotty last year is just ridiculous , it was not his offense and I'm now convinced it wasn't Mangini's either - it was Favres. He was teh one who should have shut it down if he had a torn bicep - his ego wouldn't allow that - so we got what we got. If Rex doesn't want his system - then why did he state that Shotty would be welcomed back next year - stop takin your personal preferences and applying them to what Rex wants .
Colts are really good coming off the edge which is why I thought, those reverses wouldn't work, but I agree with Clowney not reading the ends, each time I see those double reverses they just never seem to work, maybe every now and then ... I hope 1 of 2 things happen 1) Sanchez just becomes a really good QB down the road and we never have to worry about stupid trick plays like this and let him run the offense 2) Shotty stops over thinking ALL THE TIME I for one have criticized him over and over for the calls hes made, but last weeks game against the Colts he called a great game, maybe he will learn to mature as a play-caller and become the Shotty we all want to see
NFL network reporting that Buffalo today hired new GM who has strong ties to Schottenheimer Sr. and that our OC will get strong consideration for HC
I agree that schoddy will be the OC next season. He has made some horrific mistakes this season. He has a built in excuse w/Sanchez however. Sanchez is a rookie, hence everybody is gonna get a free pass except maybe cavannaugh.
you're apologizing for schotty. It was said in the press conferences it was a hot route read. I'm not "thinking" or making shit up. It was said by the coach and QB. It wasn't a brain fart for anyone. The idea was to get the ball out quick. Its a stupidly designed play. And if an OC can't control his injured QB from throwing 35 times in the Seattle Snow against what was a 3 win team at the time when you're down by one score, he deserves to be fired. Doesn't take a "Schotty Hater" to realize that. Its common sense. I'm not going to tell the long story about Schotty and the love he gets from the FO. I've used nothing but a body of work for my opinion on schotty. And that body of work isn't impressive.
I kinda wish Miami would've hired him a few years back....just because i hate the Phins more than i do the Bills.
So the play was designed to be a hot read, it doesn't mean the Oline can not block as if it was a screen. It you watch Dbrick on the play he slides inside when no one was blocking the DE, he should have sild out not in. Teams call these types of plays all the time ,they just do a better job of blocking. If Favre came back to the Jets this year , I would have agreed that Shotty should have been fired - Why because he had no control whatsoever in that offense last year . It was like a round hole and a square peg. The offense was dictated plain and simple by ol #4. Good coordinators often get fired because of bad situations . My opinion is that Shotty had been stuck in some horrible offensive situations with the Jets. My fear we fire him and he goes on to prosper with another team , meanwhile we're stuck in the cycle of throwing coordinators/coaches under the bus . Stability from a coaching staff perspective is a winning formula, something we never seem to have the patience to experience. Anyways , to a better topic , looking forward to a big win Sunday night. Happy New year !!!!
I understand that fear but I think it's a better decision to go with an OC with a proven record of success (Callahan) than to stick with a guy who might be good someday.
He's already good....He just needs to cut down on mistakes. I pointed out on another thread, that he seems to have rediscovered the High percentage pass play...I'm curious to see how the next couple weeks go on offense.
? Broncos? Stokley fined $25K for contact with official Jason La Canfora Marty Schottenheimer insists he?s done with coaching Posted: December 31st, 2009 | Jason La Canfora | Tags: Brian Schottenheimer, Buffalo Bills, Marty Schottenheimer Given the promotion of his close friend Buddy Nix to general manager in Buffalo today, there have been some rumblings that perhaps retired former head coach Marty Schottenheimer might be coming back with the Bills. Schottenheimer has said repeatedly that he has no desire to return to coaching, but I spoke with him briefly this afternoon to ask specifically about his ties to Nix and the Bills? coaching job in particular. Schottenheimer said no way. ?I don?t see any way I?ll be back in coaching,? he said during a brief telephone interview this afternoon. ?I?ve got a full plate as it is right now. My frequent flier miles are as high as they?ve ever been.? Schottenheimer, one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, said the desire to return to the sidelines is not there. ?We spent a good 30 years at it,? he said, ?but now we?re enjoying the spoils of that.? Given the family ties between Schottenheimer and Nix ? who worked together in San Diego ? some believe Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer could be in the mix for Buffalo?s job, which is held by interim coach Perry Fewell entering Week 17 after Dick Jauron was fired earlier in the season. As I reported earlier this week, the Bills are essentially re-starting their coaching search after being unable to land a top candidate like Mike Shanahan or Jon Gruden. That search could take several weeks, according to a source with knowledge of the process, and will include a thorough interviewing of several prospects, particularly once the season ends and candidates already on NFL teams become eligible to interview.
