http://www.ganggreennation.com/2009/12/28/1222391/qbing-in-ny-taking-its-toll-on In all the excitement yesterday over an excellent win that again puts us back in control of our own destiny, I couldn't help notice that the exuberance that Sanchez was known for earlier in the season seems to have died off. His post game press conference was painful to watch, he looked exhausted, downtrodden, and desperately in need of a little R&R. Sanchez's news conferences have been a source of discussion this season, especially the post Jacksonville contest where he 'changed things up a little' and gave a statement, more fitting to an apologetic political statement than a post game Q&A with the local media. I guess it is perfectly understandable for him to be getting close to being burned out. Nobody said that it was going to be easy, and a season which has seen more up's and downs than many could expect is obviously going to start taking it's toll on a young quarterback. He is constantly asked the same questions over and over, and for the most part he has controlled his temperament, said all the right things and handled himself as well as you could expect. Expectations in New York are always going to be hard to balance, especially as socially he must be the toast of the town. Maybe he is just maturing a little bit, for me personally, I miss the smiling, happy ,excited kid that we saw earlier this season, something that we really haven't seen for a long time. I'm thinking that Sanchez is finding it much tougher than first expected, but he will cope, he has a great head on those shoulders, and through experience things will get easier. When the season does come to a close, hopefully in February, Sanchez has earned a little privacy and a little rest Interesting article if I do say so myself, we all have noticed that it's taken some toll on Sanchez, he doesn't smile as much and the body language isn't there in the press conference, I can imagine how stressed out this guy is right now, such an emotional season, especially after the 3-0 start, feeling on top of the world then going through that baddd stretch that definitely hurt his morale somewhat. What i'm asking is do you think he's handled the NY Media well in his first season? I think he's realizing that these guys aren't really "his friends", granted they want him to succeed but they would much rather shit on him in the news papers and try and get him to crack, anyone agree with that? It's a tough job, I think maybe he is having signs of maturity which is always nice, sooner or later he will be what we expect of him a Franchise QB, as fans of this team, we have to continue to show appreciation that we have this guy, after all we could be stuck with JaMarcus Russell and be in REAL shit. Lets make sure we continue to support our Franchise QB, he's going to pay BIG dividends down the road :jets:
Honestly he's been relatively bad in press conferences so far this year. Good thing we're paying him to play football. The NY Media is extremely difficult, and has probably had its share in hurting young QB's confidence, but I think Sanchez will be fine. He seems like a pretty smart kid.
He's been known to throw down a steak or two at Del Frisco's steakhouse in Midtown and even ride the mechanical pony over at Johnny Utah's.
I noticed this about yesterday's Press Conference as well. The kid looks exhausted. He looked like he just wanted to get the hell out of there. He didn't even let some of the reporters finish their questions to begin giving his answers. I'm sure a trip to the Playoffs will perk him right up, so they need to get it done this weekend.
Great post. I'm a huge Sanchez fan, though I admit I'm one of the first to lay the blame on him for a loss (when deserved). However, that heavy criticism is more out of my huge desire for him to succeed and hopes that he will realize his talent. I think if he can survive the NY media, and, more importantly, the criticisms of the Jets fan base, he will be our much loved QB for the next 10-15 years. I'm 25 and can hardly handle the stresses of a full-time job and going to school part-time. This kid's 23 and dealing with the (often) overly critical NY media/fans. I agree, cut him a little slack.
This is a good point, he does seem to be depressed or just flat out exhausted...a win Sunday Night should put a big smile on his face, especially if he plays well, I'm pulling for him!!!
I say we send him the chick in Jets n Boys av.........that booty would put a smile on anybody's face.....
I bet he's pissed that he hasn't been able to really get a chance to show what he can do. He's going to have to in the Playoffs and I think he'll succeed.
