What is the status of that 'strength of schedule' advantage they have vs. Cincy ? Here's why it's important:

    (1) If the Jets win, the #4 seed (right now Cincy) plays the Jets, not Baltimore.

    (2) Winner plays @ San Diego and not at Indy.

If I'm Belichicken, I have thrashed the Jets @ Foxboro already...but just edged the Ravens. I'd rather face Sanchez and the Jets D than Flacco and the Ravens D.

Plus....you already 'beat' Indy in Indy (or should have) and have done well against them.....San Diego OTOH is the hottest team in the NFL and will have lots of off-time to rehab some injured players. SD is not a good matchup for NE, Indy is.

I wouldn't put it past Belichicken to pull 1/2 his starters in the 3rd Quarter and 'lose' the game if he knew this strength-of-schedule thing was turning in his favor (or rather, Cincy's favor).

maybe im mistaken but i think that if we win on sunday we would play the bengals no matter what in the wildcard because we would be the 5 seed.

Even if the patriots lose, to make the playoffs we would have to win and thus the bengals would lose still giving the pats the 3 seed?

    Am i mistaken?

the only way the jets can play @ foxboro is if the jets finished in a tie along with other teams

Huh?! We have home-field advantage in the Playoffs now against the Bengals all of a sudden?

The only way the Jets play NE is if the Jets tie Cincy.

    No matter what NE does.
    Jets win, Jets play Cincy.

What, tie? McNabb told me that you can't tie in the NFL.

It is not a bracket system their is no guarantee of who NE would play in round 2, unless they lock up the 3 seed, which guarantees them SD in round 2.
Belichick is no "Colts" remember how they played against the Giants at the end of the undefeated regular season and how he has poured it on, leaving Brady in and throwing when up 35 points in the second half. He will not give up a game for anyone.

NE is going to be the 3 seed. They need a win or a JETS win to be the 3 seed.

Than in the WC, If NE wins and Cincy wins..NE gets SD

If NE wins and the Jets win..NE gets SD

Wow some Jet fans have too much time on their hands.

BB has never ever taken his foot off the gas pedal. Look @ 2 years ago, they could have rested a relatively older goup of players and chose to go balls to the wall. So now he has a younger more inexperienced team and he is going o rest them and tank a game.........wow just fucking wow.

Considering the talks of some guys not being motivated or having cold shoulders with Belichick, I doubt he rests anyone.

This is the same guy who is the king of running up the score. You bench Brady at all, you risk rusting him up.

Thanks, that is exactly what I said - the only guarantee for who they play in round 2 is for them to be the 3 seed.
I was repsonding to the thought they would tank their game to be a 4 seed which still would not guarantee they get the Colts and not SD in round 2. So even though I know BB would never tank a game, he definitely would not do it for a 50/50 shot of avoiding SD (especially being that Cincy is pretty vulnerable in round 1)

If the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker between NE and Cincy (right now in NE's favor pretty strongly) were to be reversed after a bunch of games this Sunday, then NE could be the #4 seed...we could play NE....and NE would avoid playing SD in the 2nd round (assuming they beat us).
