"The Jets look well stocked at running back with Thomas Jones, Shonn Greene, and Chauncey Washington. (Preseason favorite Danny Woodhead is largely a receiver now.)

But with the offseason fast approaching, the Jets tried out former Bengals first-round pick Chris Perry Wednesday, according to Scout's Adam Caplan.

Perry, who turns 28 Sunday, has spent this year out of the NFL. He has had previous tryouts with the Chiefs and Redskins.

We'd have guessed in August this would be Jones' last season in New York, but he continues to defy the aging process. Jones is due a $3 million roster bonus on the fifth day of the 2010 league year.

Leon Washington's contract is also up, but the lack of a new collective bargaining agreement could keep him in New York as a restricted free agent."

Not groundbreaking news but didn't see it posted anywhere.

With the no cap situation, the way he is playing and the importance of the running game for us you have to keep TJ around for another year... I guess it's good to have a competition for the 3RB spot just in case Leon doesn't make it back from the injury.

I like the Chauncey Wahington pick-up as he is good for depth, played with Sanchez before and supposedly is a good ST.

We needed another Chauncey anyway, that name alone is worth it.

I can't wait to see #29 back out there in Green & White-

Perry is an excellent receiver out of the backfield....but he can't stay healthy.....he's like the running back version of Bob Sanders.

This is very true. It will be like the Lito pick up (minus the draft picks) where 30% of the time he'll be inactive due to injury...

but he does have a hell of a second gear, and I'm glad we're at least doing our due diligence and checking him out

Could this be just for Special Teams use though? We need to get Cotch off returns.

Chris Perry's not a kick returner...at least I hope they're not bringing him in to fill that role.

I don't like have Cotch back there either, he's great to catch the ball but it's not worth the injury risk.

Plus he seems horrible at returning kicks, he doesn't have that burst speed.

Clowney should be returning kicks IMO.

*shrug* I know zilch about the guy. I just don't see a need to bring in yet another RB, and we need to get Cotch off STs.

I don't care at all about burst speed. I only worry about injury.

I would guess Clowney's hands aren't up to par for Westhoff. That's my only explanation for why he doesn't do it.

I don't care about burst OR injury. I just want a punt returner who can catch the ball every time without me worrying about him dropping it. Sure, it'd be nice to have a bigger weapon, and it'd be nice not to use our #2 WR there, but when your top 2 PR's get hurt, desperate times call for desperate measures.

It's the last 2 weeks of the season. I want to win. The injury risk does not bother me one bit at this point, we're at do or die.

As for Perry, he was awful when Cincinnati gave him a chance. Usually before, he had been hurt. Still, I like looking at him because if he's healthy, he gives us a 3rd down back who isn't 5'2".

Yeah because losing Cotch on a 2 yard punt return would be well worth it right?

They have other options to catch the ball back there.

Who? Lowery is the only one I can really think of, and I would imagine if they trusted him back there, they'd prefer him back there than Cotchery.

The only other option I can think of is Revis. Revis would be a bigger play guy, but he's the caliber player I would value too much to get hurt. Really, Revis is the only one at this point I wouldn't want to risk back there because they're too important to the team.

And I'm fine if Cotchery gets hurt. I'm willing to take that risk. He's been back there a few games, and he hasn't gotten hurt yet. I just want someone who has sure hands back there. It's too late in the season, and the games mean too much to worry about getting guys hurt, and as much as I love J-Co, he's not so important to this team where if he gets hurt, we're completely screwed. And if he does get hurt, well, chances are, we're not going to the playoffs anyway, so he has the entire offseason to rest up.

The Jets should definitley keep TJ for next season. Have him, Leon, and Greene to pound the rock. That can only help Sanchez and this offense. When the time comes you eventually replace TJ with Greene and have him and Washington going forward.
